If you’ve ever stood on a ship’s deck at sunset, cocktail in hand, with the horizon glowing gold, then you know what makes cruising so addictive. And if you haven’t yet? The brand-new Star Princess is your invitation to experience that magic with a modern, luxurious twist.
Princess Cruises just launched its latest Sphere-Class ship, the Star Princess, and I’m putting myself out on a line WITHOUT having sailed her yet: she’s not just another ship. She’s a floating resort that blends classic elegance with fresh innovations, and she’s built for travelers who expect more than the usual on board experience and buffets.
Her inaugural journey is an OMG bucket list 11-day Western Mediterranean voyage from Barcelona, visiting Marseille, Rome, Naples, Sicily, Cartagena, and Gibraltar. No, that’s not just a cruise, it’s one of those dream itineraries. Whether you’ve never seen the Vatican or you’re itching to get lost in the alleys of Cartagena again, this trip hits all the sweet spots.
A Star Is Born — Bigger, Bolder, Brighter
At 177,800 tons and able to carry 4,300 guests, Star Princess is one of the largest and most impressive ships in the Princess fleet, but she won’t feel crowded (which is a pet peeve of mine on mega-ships), thanks to spacious design and over 1,500 balcony staterooms, you’ll always have your own private retreat with a front-row seat to the most beautiful view of the ocean.
For those who, like me, love a little extra luxury, the Sanctuary Collection suites and mini-suites offer exclusive amenities and access to private areas, which are perfect for those of us who prefer our quiet moments with a side of indulgence. If you follow me, you know that we generally share what it’s like in either spa class or our upcoming suite (with all of the amenities), and the Sanctuary Collection promises to give those perks that you and I are used to traveling with.

Entertainment That Dazzles Without Cheesy Gimmicks
This ship is packed with entertainment, but not the kind that feels like a high school talent show. Ahem, Mr. S and I almost always grab a last row seat at the shows in case we need to make a quick exit (there’s no excuse for bad entertainment, and if that’s the case, we tend to escape to the casino where we know we’ll have a little excitement). The Princess Arena will be hosting two new, original shows, Meridian and Illuminate, that rival anything you’d see on Broadway or the West End. Think high-tech staging, soaring music, and just the right amount of spectacle.
One of the most talked-about spaces onboard is Spellbound by Magic Castle (yes, the same Magic Castle family where the magician that I used to be an assistant for performs regularly), an immersive speakeasy experience where illusions, live performances, and vintage glamor come together in one enchanting evening. It’s sophisticated, it’s fun, and it’s totally unique to Princess.
Looking for something more mellow? The Candlelight Concert Series transforms the ship’s Dome into a soft, glowing venue with live musicians performing under the stars. It’s romantic, it’s nostalgic, and it’s tailor-made for travelers who appreciate atmosphere with their entertainment.

Dining to Match Every Mood (and Memory)
Princess hasn’t just upped its culinary game, it’s playing in a whole new league. With 30 dining and bar venues, you’ll find something new each night. The expanded O’Malley’s Irish Pub is the perfect spot for a casual pint and some storytelling with new friends, while Love by Britto offers a fine dining experience infused with artistry and flair.

Don’t skip the Love Line Premium Liquor Collection, either. Curated with help from celebs like Jason Momoa, Matthew McConaughey, and Kylie Minogue, it adds a little extra sparkle to those sunset cocktails. And yes, there are high-end non-alcoholic options too, for those like me looking to toast without the buzz.
Wellness, Relaxation & Real Fun
Here’s where this ship is going to shine. I’ve sailed with Princess in the past, and they always know how to pamper. But this takes it to a whole new level. Whether it’s unwinding in the two-story Lotus Spa, joining a sunrise stretch on the SkyDeck, or catching a quick game of pickleball, Star Princess delivers something for every energy level. The walking/jogging track lets you stay active with a sea view, while shaded lounge areas invite you to do absolutely nothing — which, let’s face it, is sometimes the point of cruising.
And when night falls? The reimagined champagne waterfall and lively deck parties bring back that old-school cruise glamor with a fresh feel. You can join in the dancing or just soak up the vibe with a glass of bubbly in hand.
Coming Soon: Caribbean Sun & Alaska Dreams
After wrapping her first Mediterranean and transatlantic voyages, Star Princess will head to Fort Lauderdale (I’m excited because this is my “home” port) for a Caribbean season kicking off this November. Think turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, and island charm. Then in summer 2026, she’ll make her Alaska debut (Mr. S’ FAVORITE place to cruise), offering Inside Passage cruises from Seattle that promise glaciers, wildlife, and once-in-a-lifetime views.
