I actually have a signature scent, and while every now and then I mix it up and wear something new, MY scent is difficult to find and evokes very strong memories for me….making it mysterious and ME all at the same time. The truth is, with so many fragrances on the market it’s not always an easy task finding the one that is UNIQUELY YOU.
I BELIEVE –
that investing in a good quality perfume is essential. It’s one of my guilty pleasures and I always buy my favorite scent in body wash, body lotion, etc. to go along with my perfume & cologne so that I can layer for a long lasting fragrance.
How do you choose?
Have an idea before you beginning trying.
Do you prefer
- woodsy – earthy and GREAT for every day use
- florals – for the feminine, romantic or traditional type
- spicy – think Oriental, HOT & sexy
- ocean – for a modern beachy smell
- or a citrus smell – these tend to be fresh and tropical
Spray it on
Spray a little on your skin. Don’t be satisfied with a spritz into the air or those little paper test strips that they give at the cosmetic counter or inside magazines.
Experiment
It doesn’t have to be from the women’s department. I know a LOT of great men’s colognes that smell AWESOME, and you may be the only one wearing it. Imagine people asking you WHERE you got that wonderful scent?
Take you time
After about three different scents, my nose starts mish-mashing them all together. Smell something else like your sleeve, the scarf around your neck, that cup of coffee you have (this is what PROFESSIONAL perfumers use between sniffs).
If you love it make it your own
I’ve been wearing Costes for about 6 years now. I have truly enveloped it as my own. I wear it year round, whether in the cold New York winters or Palm Beach. It says ME!
Make an impact
Learn just the right amount to wear for daytime vs. evening, what smells light and how much is TOO MUCH. You want someone to come in CLOSE to smell you, and if they get a whiff a foot away, you’re being heavy-handed. For everyday I tend to just wash with the scented body wash and layer on the scented cream.
Hint
Spray your hairbrush with cologne before brushing your hair!
