The great St. Lucie art heist

With Father’s Day just around the corner, I’ve been trying to figure out WHAT to get Mr. S. It’s not easy after 32 years of marriage. There’s a lot of been there, bought that, and getting something unique that he’ll LOVE has been a daunting task. I recently made over our bedroom in the Sofia Vergara collection from Kmart. I had chosen the Black Magic collection, because I figured that it was a little more manly (being black with gray/black sheets). The problem I have now is, that the room is a bit bland and in dire need of some color.

So, for Father’s Day I decided to pick out a piece of artwork that would reflect what HE might like, rather than what I might like. Of course I went to my favorite source for prints Gallery Direct. But how would I choose? There must be thousands upon thousands of limited edition artwork, prints, and frames to choose from.

Rather than toil through each and every piece of art, I went directly to the “Collections” tab and clicked on ART FOR HIM. This leveled the field down to a much more  manageable selection for me. I knew that we wanted BIG (we have no headboard) and I knew we wanted OUTRAGEOUS.

The MOMENT that I saw Ta Wanda by Peggy Weiss I knew that this was IT! It’s colorful, it’s FUN, and he’ll certainly remember this gift. That was the easy part, as next it was on to choose between a floater frame, framed canvas, or a simple gallery wrap. This being a CRAZY piece, I knew that it would easily stand alone without a frame, so I chose the large (40 x 40) canvas wrap. I was off to place my order.

Ta Wanda hiding in the guest room

My gift arrived quickly, maybe a little TOO quickly since I’d have to try and hide a 40 x 40 piece of artwork. The only way that I could do it, was to remove it from the box and put the box into that day’s trash pickup. I then HUNG the piece in the guest bedroom, knowing he’d NEVER GO IN THERE. I think in 6 years he’s walked into that room twice. It’s B’s room when he stays with us on the weekend, which is how we get to the ART THEFT!

Ta Wanda's gone missing !?!?!?!

Last week “B” stayed over. When I went into the room a day later….Ta Wanda was missing.  In a minor panic I went searching. Maybe I misplaced it. Wait, how could I misplace a HUGE piece of artwork? Then I saw it…stashed in the back of B’s Jeep Grand Cherokee, ready to be taken to his condo that is still being decorated.  I confronted the thief “B”and asked where he was taking her, only to find out that she was going to be hung in his DINING ROOM!  The thought of Ta Wanda hanging proudly in the dining room made me laugh…and laugh…and laugh, until I gave in and said “I’ll just go buy dad something else, I’ve still got time.”

The authorities were not called, and since Mr. S has no idea that it was going to be his gift there were no charges filed.

If you’re looking for something a little different for dad, your hubby, or son for Father’s Day – Gallery Direct has a great selection of artwork for his office or man cave.  Selecting is easy, especially when you search by category, collections or even a favorite artist. To sweeten the deal, right now you can get 20% off and FREE SHIPPING on any gallery art image, material AND framing option. This includes canvas, paper, aluminum, acrylic, birchwood & mirror.

To see ALL of the fabulous artwork go to GALLERY DIRECT!

I am a blogger ambassador for Gallery Direct, as such I receive artwork to facilitate my reviews. All opinions are strictly my own.

certainly is an entertaining piece of artwork although not sure I’d hang it in a living room possibly an entertainment room but YES it would make a great gift
