Leave it to Amazon to make borrowing books cool again. For those of us who live in digital, we’re attached to our Kindle
or some form of Kindle reader (mine is downloaded both to my iPad and Android phone via a free android-app). While somewhere in the back of my head I know that our town library is a mere four miles from the mansion, that instant satisfaction of downloading a book is much easier. Plus, I don’t have to put a HOLD on a new book.
For the cost of an Amazon Prime membership ($79), which honestly is NOT cheap, you can borrow the hottest new books from the Amazon lending library with NO DUE DATES. So, if you’re a painfully slow reader, there will be no fees. If you’re a quick reader and love being the FIRST to check out bestsellers, the $79 will be a bargain. I’m estimating that if you PURCHASED the books at Amazon prices, that the service would pay for itself in about 6 months or less (reading only one book per month).
I already have an Amazon prime membership, because I do a LOT of online ordering from them and often need gifts quickly. Now I just have to decide between the thousands of books that they have in their lending library.
