Subscriptions aren’t just for magazines

Over the years I’ve seen subscription services come and go, the most common being the cosmetics. I remember one when I was in high school (advertised in magazines like Seventeen and others aimed at the under 18 women), that would send me a box of full-sized cosmetics – all the same brand month after month. I recall my mom shaking her head when my big box of blue eye shadow and beet red nail polish would arrive…she thought was a lot of money. I was in HEAVEN. My vanity drawers were filled with all sorts of colorful goodies to put on my face. Unfortunately, when I stopped and took a good look at what I had aquired, I realized that I probably only used about 10% of what I received.

While cosmetic subscriptions still rule, there is a new wave of goodies that you can purchase to arrive at your door month after month.

  • Cosmetics
  • Skin Care
  • Food
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Shoes
  • Men’s Skin Care
  • Manicure/Pedicure Supplies
  • Jewelry
  • Organic Products
  • Toys

It seems like the list is endless. So, is it worth shelling out $10 to $80 for each SURPRISE box? It certainly depends on which you choose.  I’ll be giving you the 411 on some of these services starting with the newest one on the block – CRAVEBOX, who’s very first box went out to members this month.

As you can see, Cravebox was a grab bag of products that ran the gamut from a high end body balm to some Bic pens. In all honesty, it was not at all what I had expected from SheSpeaks (who owns Cravebox), but the products were worth the $10 that I put out.

Would I have rather been able to actually CHOOSE what was in the box? The celebrity inspired Shoe Dazzle (which I’ll be reviewing here for you next month) gives you the opportunity to pick out the shoes that you want – for under $40! What a fun way to add to  my obsessive collection for very little money.

Personally, I find it fun to open a box not knowing what’s inside. It’s like getting a birthday gift each month. Sometimes you oooh & ahhh and think “it’s just what I wanted,” while other shipments bring a feeling of disappointment.

Do you have any favorite services that you subscribe to? Stay tuned, because I have a list of DOZENS of these coming soon!

I haven’t done any of these subscriptions, so I look forward to reading more about them.

I’d probably subscribe if I knew what was coming, and it was replenishing…a surprise box? Nah. That’s a company getting rid of its leftovers.

I want to know it’s worth my money and something I will use before I spend my money on it. Sounds like you did well
