Has your hectic life started to get out of control? Do you feel like it’s impossible to achieve true balance? The truth is, lots of people get so wrapped up in success and having it all that they become overwhelmed. They’ve managed somehow to juggle so many things at once, that a push in either direction could throw them off balance.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with wanting to have a big house, a beautiful family, a great career, and a killer social life, however, when trying to accomplish all of these things puts you in over your head, it may be one of the first signs your life is out of balance. Here are a few more:
-
You don’t have any time. Keeping busy is a great way to remain productive, but overworking yourself is counterproductive. A clear sign that your life is not balanced is if the majority of your time is controlled by your obligations and commitments to others.
-
You can’t get any sleep. Sleep deprivation is common when you’re dealing with an undue amount of stress and anxiety. If your sleep is constantly being disturbed by the worries on your mind, you need to reorganize your life.
-
You feel like you don’t want to do anything. Have you been working yourself so hard lately that you’re starting to resent it all? Do you suddenly not want to go to work, take the kids to school, or cook dinner? An occasional break is one thing, however, if you’re starting to feel like you have to rebel against doing things that were once important to you, this is a problem.
-
You’re drinking more to soothe the feelings. A glass of wine or a can of beer at the end of a hard working day isn’t a problem. However, if that’s the only thing you’re looking forward to, or you’ve increased that to multiple drinks, you may have a serious issue. There are places like Casa Capri where you can go for help to stop a drinking problem and address the feelings that drove you to it.
-
You have no idea what you like to do anymore. Your time and energy have become so inundated with responsibilities for other people and things that you don’t have any time to focus on your own interests. You have no idea what you like anymore, and even worse, don’t even have the time to dedicate to finding out.
-
You find that you don’t feel well more frequently. When stress and anxiety reach extreme levels it can manifest in the form of headaches, body aches, upset stomach, and other illnesses. If you’ve been not feeling yourself lately or seem to catch illnesses quicker than usual, this could be a sign you’re carrying too much baggage.
-
Your friends have put out a missing person report. Other areas of your life have become so all-consuming that you haven’t had time for your friends. Your absence may have even started to worry them causing them to reach out to you to find out if everything’s ok.
-
The little things that would normally just roll off the shoulder are starting to bother you – bad. You’re always agitated and unable to control your temper. From an annoying coworker to a fussy kid, you’re ready to scream at the top of your lungs at the onset of chaos (no matter how minor it really is).
How many of these signs have you witnessed in your own life? If you did recognize some of these signs, it’s nothing to be ashamed of as everyone goes through rough patches in life. The key is to learn how to find balance. Learning to put yourself first, how to say no, and how to pace yourself. These can take time, but in the end, it’s all worth it. Don’t let your quest to have it all in life back you into a corner that causes you to destroy what matters most – you.
