I’ve got my winter coat, gloves and long underwear and a cute little cocktail dress ready for this weekend when I leave sunny Florida and head to the Big Apple for the red carpet premiere of Steven Spielburg’s newest film to hit the big screen – War Horse, as well as the theatrical re-release of Beauty and the Beast 3D and Mary Poppins on Broadway.
Word on the “street” is that War Horse is going to be a Spielburg’s blockbuster à la Saving Private Ryan, and if it’s classic Spielburg – I know we’ll be in for a real treat. Add to the mix Emily Watson, who’s worked with everyone from Ricky Gervais to Lars von Trier (and YES, I do want to ask her about him) as well as that adorable newcomer Jeremy Irvine and I’m ready to be wowed.
We’ll also be seeing the theatrical re-release of Beauty and the Beast in 3D. The fashionista in me is excited to get the FULL 3-D effect of Belle’s glamorous gowns. Don’t tell anyone, but I didn’t get to see it in 3-D the first time around, so this is going to be one of those magical Disney moments for me. If you’re sitting behind me in the theater, it’s okay to shush me….sometimes I don’t realize that I’m singing along with the movie.
From the glamorous Belle of the ball, to hanging with the chimney sweeps of London – our final show will be LIVE as we enjoy the Tony nominated musical Mary Poppins. Now, you know that I hit the bright lights of Broadway every now and then (and when I was young I even performed at the Cort Theatre on Broadway in a show with the late Doug Henning), but because I’m usually an adult taking in shows with other adults, I don’t get to see shows like Mary Poppins (I think the last show that I saw was A Simple Rain with Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig), so this is going to be a treat. This should bring back memories, as I haven’t seen Mary Poppins the movie since I was …oh, don’t ask – let’s just say that I saw it when it was first released and I was still in middle elementary school….barely.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a visit to New York without hanging with my dear friend Katja Presnal on Sunday morning for a little brunch and a walk through the Christmas Market at Bryant Park (a little holiday shopping maybe?).
This will be a whirlwind weekend in the city and I want you to enjoy it as much as I do. To follow along LIVE, simple follow me on twitter at: zipporahs and follow the hashtag: #DisneyDreamworksEvent. When the movies open in your city, why not plan a red carpet event of your own?
