Protecting the mansion

There’s nothing worse than having your home and personal items violated. I know. It’s happened to us not once, but twice. The first time Mr. S and I were working at our restaurant in Providence. After a long day we came home to find our puppy sitting outside the front door. Now, she had never even been out on the street without being leashed before, and we lived in the city right by the entrance to the freeway, so I just KNEW something awful had happened. As we pulled into the driveway we also saw the side window open and there was no television set sitting there. I got a hard knot in the pit of my stomach, as we walked into the house. Our TV, the VHS and the Atari (can you guess what year it was?) had been stolen. Thankfully the dog was alright.

One year later it happened again. Only this time we were both at home when they backed their car at high speed through out front door, taking out the door jam. It was late, and we were in bed when we heard the crash. Mr. S (who’s 6’2″ and played college football) grabbed a nine-iron and came out swinging. They were already in the foyer of our home, and went running when they saw a big naked man with a golf club chasing after them. May I say now how STUPID Mr. S was, as he didn’t know if they were armed or not. This time they took nothing from the house, but they did take our feeling of being safe.

Now we make sure that we have a security system that we have installed here at the mansion.

It doesn’t matter whether you live in the city or the suburbs, protecting your home and family from intruders whether you’re away or home (like we were) will give you some peace of mind, and while we have a complete alarm system installed, we still take simple precautions like using a timer for our lights when we’re away, making sure the outside lights are on (so our neighbors can see our property and call if anything looks suspicious), and stopping the newspaper delivery and alerting our neighbors when we’re on vacation.

I know that there are a lot of you who think “this can’t happen to me” – I thought that as well. It can! Don’t wait until something happens.

We definitely need to look into getting a security system. That infographic brings up some really scary points!

I hate thinking that I NEED one, but it was scary to have your home gone through by strangers…and then there’s the DOG.
