Key West with your pooch

This post is written in cooperation with Best Western. All opinions are strictly our own.

The Custom House – Key West

Traveling with a dog isn’t always easy

  • I’ve been turned away from many a pet friendly hotel because they only had a room or two that would accomodate dogs, and they were full.
  • I’ve been in cities where there were NO hotels that would take my bestie in (even if I tried dressing him in children’s clothing)

We love going to Key West

While there are plenty of pet friendly restaurants (because of the outdoor dining), there are a limited amount of value conscious spots that allow your dog as an extra guest. With so many pet friendly things to do, there is absolutely no reaso to leave Fido at home.

Dog park – Key Ambassador Resort

Pet Places

Higgs Beach Dog Park – this fenced in dog park has a birds eye view to the ocean with areas for both large and small dogs to romp freely. There are water bowls available and shade for you as you sit and watch your 4-legged bestie play.

Key West Dog Beach – this small rocky beach is best suited for dogs who enjoy SWIMMING vs. walking/standing at the waters edge. A great place for the dog cool off on a hot day.

Clem taking a seat at the Island Dogs Bar

Our Favorite Pet Friendly Restaurant

Island Dogs Bar – it’s always been our go-to spot for dining. Sit on the patio with your pooch and people watch. There are water bowls spaced along this porch and you can slip doggie a piece of your burger because he/she’s being so good. Great food, fun atmosphere and a store that sells t-shirts for you and bandanas & leashes for your pet.

Don’t Miss CLASSIC Key West

Key West Sunset Celebration – Mallory Square. Watch as the sun sets, the crowds cheer and the entertainment goes on around the pier. Enjoy music, magicians, pet acts and fire eaters. Then take your place on the wall and watch the sun setting at the southernmost spot on the United States.

Pina Colada time at the Cheekie Hut

The most Pet Friendly place to stay

Best Western Ambassador Resort – this is hands down the MOST pet friendly resort in Key West. WHY? Because aside from the rooms that allow your friend to stay with a low pet rate, there is a DOG PARK behind the hotel for guests to use. We are used to having to find a small patch of grass, but at this Best Western, your dog will be able to take a walk…and their are pet clean up stations with complimentary bags. What about humans? With free breakfast and a fun “Cheekie” hut that sits poolside offering food and drinks with an island flavor.
