Is your mail secure?

Everyone’s talking about it

Anyone that has a television or radio today can tell you that there are more and more people becoming victims of identity theft. As an ambassador for Lifelock, I thought that I understood keeping myself safe, but I’m still learning SO much about keeping my family safe. If you are worried about this happening to you then you have to know that your utility bills and phone accounts can be very easy targets for any identity thief. This is because these statements can have a great deal of personal information on them. If you are not protecting this information you will see that you could easily become a victim of identity theft.

But did you know that

Utilities fraud or phone fraud can take place when you do not keep your mail in a safe location. It will be very important to make sure that you are getting your mail in a secure location. If your postal service is not keeping your mail locked in a safe location then you will either want to move your mail or you are going to want to speak with your postal carrier about any chances that could be made. If you have your mail delivered to your door then you may want to think about having this changed. I know that there are times that I go away for the weekend and don’t bother to stop the mail, and just let it sit in my mailbox for two or three days.

IMPORTANT

It will also be very important to make sure that you are not throwing your mail out so that others can find it. This may sound really odd but you should know that there are a lot of thieves out there that are going to actually take the time to go through your garbage. That is how they end up with your account information to commit utility fraud or phone fraud. They can find personal information on these accounts that will allow them to steal your identity as well. It is much safer for you to shred all of these statements before you throw them out with the trash. Then, no one will be able to gather your information from these statements.

It may seem like a lot of work

But in the long run…it’s always smart to be safe than sorry.

I know that the best way of keeping my identity safe has been with my LifeLock membership. If you’re looking to stay up-to-date on all tips and tricks from LifeLock follow them on:
