What can I say, Mr S and I have an odd relationship. We began as best friends, never meaning to get more involved than that. We hung out at his restaurant…he, my boyfriend and I. I took care of his home when he left Providence to open new restaurants and nightclubs in Houston, and moved out when he came back.
Once we got it together and realized that we made a good couple, I moved in. So, while our wedding was a huge celebration for our families, to us it was just a great big party. There was music, lots of food, even MORE drinks, and partying til the wee hours of the morning.
Unfortunately, the day we were married is the day my mom learned that she had cancer and would be going in to the hospital the following day for further testing, to see the extent of it. So…we decided that a honeymoon in the South of France was too far to go considering we might need to rush back, and we headed to New York to see a couple of Broadway shows, then to Atlantic City and on to visit family in Pennsylvania.
When push comes to shove, family means more than a fancy vacation.
Of course, over the years we’ve had plenty of travels, good times, tough times, and after 34 years, we still laugh and take care of each other. We are the lucky ones. I’ve read stories of being stranded, having allergic reactions and getting that darned Honeymoon Cystitis on honeymoons.Yes, I’ve had my share of UTIs, but believe it or not…my HUSBAND suffered from them as well.
DID YOU KNOW THAT…
- 1 in 5 women will contract a UTI in their lifetime and 20% of women with UTIs develop reoccurring infections.
- UTIs are the second most common type of infection in the body, accounting for 8.1 million visits to health care providers each year.
- Approximately 80% of premenopausal women with a UTI have had sex within 24 hours of contracting the UTI.
- Women having sex for the first time or who have intense frequent sex after a period of abstinence are at risk for honeymoon cystitis.
Years ago, I’d just take the meds my doctor gave me and drink cranberry juice. With Cystex, it’s SO much easier than forcing glass after glass of that red juice in (when you’re not even thirsty). Today it’s as easy as taking a tablespoon of Cystex liquid to help decrease the frequency of infection, and if you find that you’re in pain from a current UTI, Cystex®PLUS Urinary Pain Relief Tablets contain an antibacterial agent and analgesic that can help with the discomfort (neither of these products are meant to cure a urinary tract infection or to replace a doctor’s care – so see your doctor at the first sign of a UTI).
