Our family traditions.
- Chanukah with the kids
- Christmas morning at my brother’s place
- New Year’s Eve at our house
Christmas brunch at my brother’s is always a BLAST. It’s a mix of family, friends and THEIR families and friends. Some years it flows over onto the beach, other years we sing around the piano as Kent plays traditional Christmas Carols. Some show up in their ugliest Christmas sweaters, while other friends dress to the nines….yes, it IS a good mix. Each year the guest list seems to expand or contract based on who has made it to Florida in time (snowbirds) or who’s family is expecting them to swing by.
The bar is always open with mimosas and Bellinis, while the side table is spread with our favorite holiday foods and treats. My brother always presents the food buffet style, we all take turns between the tables that are set up to eat at and the sitting areas for socializing. Some people I only see ONCE each year, and we catch up on the past 365 days.
The food
Each year I come bearing delights, usually a blueberry or French coffee cake, cookies, or other sweet treats, but over time I’ve noticed that most of the guests come with home baked goods (or wine), so this year I want to take some of the cooking burden off my brother by bringing a HoneyBaked Ham. It works PERFECTLY for his buffet as it is spiral sliced and is delicious both warm out of the oven or at room temperature.
HoneyBaked Ham
They makes it easy to impress your guests with handcrafted, premium meats that are smoked, spiral sliced and finished with the sweet, crunchy glaze that has set them apart for generations. Best of all, all I have to do is tell the employee working at the HoneyBaked Ham store how many guests we’re having, and they instinctively know just how large a ham I’ll need. They’ll suggest great side dishes to round out the meal, like cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and more.
This year I’m giving back
I love that I can also give back during the holidays by making a donation at my neighborhood HoneyBaked Ham store to help the Sinise Foundation in their collection to benefit the First Responder Outreach program. The company will also provide 250 hams and turkeys to the families of fallen soldier program. There are so many first responders who will be working, ensuring our communities stay safe while we are at home enjoying the holiday this year and I want to thank them by giving what I can.
