As soon as I sat down to write about my new Airwear lenses in my glasses, I had this vision (sic) of being in Grade school and wearing my Cat’s Eye classes (now back in style) and having kids call me Four Eyes. It’s been years, of course and now glasses are considered to be STYLISH. As a matter of fact…even though I wear contact lenses most of the time, I have at least 2 or 3 pairs of glasses that I wear when the mood strikes (or my eyes are tired).
Don’t laugh….but I actually have a pair of Cat’s Eye Hillary Duff glasses, that are SORT OF shaped like those old bat-wing ones from the 50’s. The problem is that I was being C-H-E-A-P when I bought them and had them put REGULAR lenses in (not the polycarbonate ones). When I wear them (often) they leave a HUGE RIDGE across my nose, and frankly they’re UNCOMFORTABLE.
I had a pair of plain black frames hanging around, but I never wore them because I had put transitional lenses in them and I still had to switch to prescription sunglasses when I drive because they just don’t do a THING when you’re behind the glare of a windshield (total waste of money).
MomCentral approached me about trying the new GREEN lenses by Essilor called Airwear. GREEN LENSES? No, not the COLOR green, but eco-friendly GREEN. Airwear lenses are actually made using environmentally conscious practices such as 100 percent recycled water and 100 percent recyclable packaging. But going green doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort or performance — these lenses provide 100 percent UV protection, and are lighter and more impact-resistant than standard plastic lenses. The company re-purposes unused materials in other industries. With these new, green practices Airwear conserves millions of gallons of water and eliminates 570,000 pounds of plastic waste every year!
So, not only do I have a new pair of lightweight glasses (no ridges left on the bridge of my nose), but by wearing them I’m helping the environment, when I choose Airwear over traditional lenses. One of the other things that I LOVE about Essilor’s Airwear, is that they DONATE old (but still usable) eyeglasses to the Lions Club International’s Recycle for Sight program.
Personally, I’m THRILLED with how they LOOK, FEEL and PERFORM. I’ve got comfort and the glasses are GREAT. Did I mention that they’re also more impact- and scratch- resistant than standard plastic lenses? YUP! No more scratching up your lenses when you toss your glasses in your handbag to switch to your sunglasses (I’m bad – there are times that I forget to bring a case and just toss mine in). This makes them GREAT FOR KIDS who are rough on their eyeglasses.
Airwear lenses are available for single vision and progressive prescriptions, and are compatible with the world’s most trusted vision brands, such as Varilux, Crizal, Xperio, DEFINITY and Transitions. You can get them at most vision centers that sell Essilor lenses.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Airwear and received a pair of Airwear eyeglass lenses to thank me for taking the time to participate.

I need to do something about my glasses; I'm wearing a pair of gold-metal Catherine Deneuve frames that are probably close to five years old, and comfort is a BIG issue for me, 'cause I wear them all day. I hope I can find a local optical shop that has the Airwear!
