7 Science-Based Health Benefits of Drinking Enough Water

Since I’m on this whole healthier living kick, one of the most important things that my fitness coach has talked about is that we all need to drink at least 8 large glasses of water, or 2 liters per day. When I first started doing this it seemed like a bit overwhelming, but the fact is that your body is approximately 60% water.

I just keep in mind her Progress not Perfection motto, and I realize that it doesn’t actually matter if I reach this target or not, as long as I amdrinking water and staying hydrated. Of course it helps to treat the water to ensure it is as beneficial as possible. You can access an array of water filters Sydney herefor examples of ways to make sure you are getting the BEST water available.

Remember drinking water is more than a fad; there are actually science based health benefits!

  1. Energy Levels

Your brain needs to be hydrated in order to function properly. In fact research suggests that even being a little dehydrated will impair your normal brain function. This will result in more frequent headaches, more bad moods and an inability to concentrate. You’ll be less inclined to exercise and your energy levels will suffer.

  1. Physical Performance

Water does more than help your cells work efficiently, boosting your energy levels. It can also help you perform physically to the best of your ability.

Again, even the slightest dehydration can lead to an inability to regulate your body temperature, a feeling of fatigue and a lack of motivation to exercise.

You won’t be performing at your best!

  1. Headache Prevention

As I mentioned above, dehydration will increase the frequency of your headaches. To help prevent headaches simply drink more. This is backed up through several studies.

  1. Relief Of Constipation

I hate talking about it, but you and I both know that when you have difficultly passing hard waste then there is a good chance there is not enough fluid in your diet. This can be easily rectified by drinking water.

It will soften your stools and help you to pass them more easily (and you’ll feel yourself again).

  1. Prevents Hangovers

Water may not be a miracle cure to a hangover but drinking a glass of water before bed, after drinking will help to prevent them. Remember that a glass of wine or other alcohol is very dehydrating. That’s because alcohol is a diuretic; which means you lose more water than you absorb. Your hangover is not usually a result of dehydration but being dehydrated will increase the likelihood of thirst, tiredness and headaches.

Drinking water can prevent this from occurring.

  1. Relieves Kidney Stones

Having kidney stones is a painful experience. They are the result of minerals collecting in your body and clumping inside your kidneys. When they are small they can pass through the kidney; although they will be painful. Larger ones cannot be passed and need surgical intervention.

Early research shows that drinking water can reduce the occurrence of these stones.

  1. Boosts Weight Loss

Now that’s what I’m talking about!!! Every time you consume cold water your body needs to heat the water to the right temperature. This requires the use of muscles inside the body and burns calories; helping you to lose weight. It’s that simple. Plus, drinking water before you eat and when you feel hungry is an excellent way to ensure you do not overeat; as you’ll already feel full.

In fact, drinking water boosts your metabolic rate by as much as 96 calories per day for just 2 liters of water!
