Why Spring is the Best Time to Take a Ski Trip

When people think of winter sports, skiing is usually at the top of the list. It’s easy to see why, as the activity requires either real or artificial snow, and is usually done in colder temperatures. However, what if I told you that skiing in the spring actually offers more advantages than skiing in the winter? That’s right, you should hold off your search for Whistler homes for sale that you can use for ski lodging and delay your ski trip until the springtime altogether. Why would you do this? Here’s why spring is the best time to take a ski trip

Weather

One of the main reasons why spring is the best time to take a ski trip is the warm weather. If you take a ski trip in the middle of winter, you’re likely going to encounter some harsh winter weather. Winter weather can affect your ski trip negatively in a wide variety of ways. Extremely frigid temperatures could completely ruin your skiing experience. Although skiing may be a winter sport, skiing in below-freezing temperatures for long periods of time can lead to things such as frostbite and hypothermia. In addition, harsh winter storms with lots of snow can delay travel and throw a huge wrench into your ski trip plans. If you take your ski trip in the spring, the weather will be much milder and you won’t have to worry about these problems.

Length of Day

Another big reason to take a ski trip in the spring is the length of the day. During the winter months, the sun sets extremely early in the day. Sometimes it may be dark by around 5 P.M., meaning that you have an extremely limited amount of time to hit the slopes. However, as time inches closer to spring, the days begin to get longer and longer. The longer days allow you to spend more time on the slopes, enjoying your trip to the fullest.

Snow Quality

Many skiing purists may argue that deep powder snow is the best kind of snow to ski on, but that doesn’t always ring true. Many people believe that deep and heavily powdered snow is actually much harder for beginner skiers to learn on. Thankfully, thanks to the spring’s warmer temperatures, the snow on the slopes likely won’t be extremely powdered and deep. Due to this, if you have beginner skiers tagging along on your ski trip, then you may want to take your trip in the spring just so they have easier conditions to learn on.

Crowds

A huge advantage of taking a ski trip during the spring is the ability to avoid massive crowds. Since skiing is considered to be a winter sport, many people decide to take their ski trips in winter, usually sometime around Christmas vacation. As a result, popular ski slopes can actually get quite busy during the winter months. However, as the weather warms up and spring begins to creep in, crowds at the slopes begin to disperse. People begin to focus on spring activities, and skiing is left behind as an afterthought. As a result, if you hit the slopes in the spring, you won’t have to deal with massive crowds and extremely crowded slopes, a major positive.
