It’s no secret that I’m not enamored with the cooking arts. That may secretly be why I married a man who owned restaurants. He would cook for me every night and no one would ever know that I could barely boil water. While I was a writer, dancer and an actress, my artistic abilities were best left outside of the kitchen.
But, Mr. S never cooked at home
So, I was left to stumble through dinners night after night. I perfected 3 or 4 meals, and for most of our lives we’ve been eating them in rotation, with the delivery person ringing our bell at least 3 times a week.
38 years into our marriage
I discovered Chef’d. I didn’t discover it by accident. As I was looking through subscription services for food I found it…or maybe Chef’d found me. Either way, I knew it was something I had to try.
Why Chef’d?
I didn’t want a subscription service. Mr. S is not only a picky eater, but he is limited to what he can eat following his surgery this year. Our tastebuds run in opposite directions, and the last time I received a subscription box, we both headed for the hills (or should I say for Grubhub) when we saw what was in the box. I like being able to choose exactly the main course that I want and have the option of ordering side-dishes, or just making my own from what’s in the fridge. I don’t want to be forced to chomp on (or toss out) the Curry & Cilantro flavored veggies and mashed jicama. We are simple eaters and Chef’d honors our differing likes by allowing me to choose exactly what I want…including DESSERT!
I can be as adventurous as I want or just enjoy my favorite comfort foods
Yes, I said COOK! My mom always taught me that you can do anything you want if you just read the directions. My problem in the past was that the directions (recipes) that I’ve used were a little too difficult for this fumbling cook. There are THOUSANDS of food choices, each coming with clear step-by-step directions. I have to admit that I actually felt like a star in the kitchen (not just on stage or online) and YES, I began VERY simply (I didn’t want to scare Mr. S).
Celebrity Chefs!
From Lance Bass (can you hear the singing from my kitchen?) to Duff Goldman (wiping the drool…or is it the “Death by Chocolate” from my face) as well as their own Chef’d brand are available for order. From budget friendly meals and 10-minute meals (HELLO!) to favorites you will never have to worry about what’s for dinner.
Just the two of you or the entire family
Meals are available packaged for two or four (as well as for 6 and larger), but I did find that the unexpected plus was that portions are generous and I had leftovers with my Chef’d meals. You can order based on special diets like Atkins, Weight Watchers, the American Diabetes Association and more. making this a LITERAL lifesaver for those of us who are attempting to stick with our programs.
I admit, I began safely
I didn’t want to overwhelm myself, so my first order was
- Baked Chicken Taquitos – we are trying to eat healthier and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Mexican food. I figured that if it said that it was easy enough for kids to make, that I’d SHINE with these. I was right. There were LOTS of leftovers and we had the rest for lunch the following day.
- Grilled Swordfish with Dill Aioli– it was easy and took 15 minutes from start to finish. Did I mention that it was DELICIOUS?
By the way, mine not only tasted FABULOUS, but my meals actually LOOKED as good as those fancy photos on the Chef’d site. I feel like a hero!
Will I order again?
YES…I actually already have, and I actually feel like I’m getting a little kitchen confidence now. I love not having to shop and to be able to expand the repertoire of dinners.
