While you might usually find me with a glass of prosecco in my left hand, and a bite of lobster tail on my cocktail fork in the right, like everyone else I enjoy slipping into a fast food restaurant every now and then. It’s a guilty pleasure that usually makes me feel even MORE guilty after I’ve eaten.
I was invited to try the new PDQ Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich and I had to admit that
I’d never been to a PDQ before
From the moment you drive up to this fast food restaurant you notice something completely different. With the exception of the drive up menu board, the exterior looks like a steakhouse or sit-down restaurant. But, I quickly learned that this was not the ONLY difference between PDQ and other chicken restaurants.
The Personal Touch
Whether you are in a hurry and use the drive-through or come in and place your order you’ll feel like an old friend. The staff makes a point of using your name (at least 3 times) in a way that is friendly and makes you feel special.
Fast-food with an open kitchen
Fast food is meant to be…well…FAST. That can mean that in the rush things end up on the floors, counters get a little messy, etc. Daring to have an open kitchen where diners can watch their meal being made means that PDQ has made an obvious commitment to cleanliness and making the freshest food available.
So fresh you might want to slap it…
Maybe that’s an overstatement, but I DID get an education in chicken tenders vs strips vs nuggets and along the way learned that PDQ uses only the best ingredients available. I even noticed a bottle of my favorite (over priced) vanilla on the shelf in the kitchen. That’s right…you’ll find LOTS of recognizable brand names on the shelves…no skimping on quality here.
Is this as good as your mama’s chicken?
Not MY mama’s – hers was always overcooked. We were treated to an absolute FEAST that included
- That delicious new Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich up top
- Grilled chicken salad topped with candied almonds & craisins and an exceptional blueberry-ginger vinaigrette dressing
- Zucchini fries – I dare you to find BETTER ones. We were full and kept eating them
- Grilled tenders
- Cole slaw with….BLUEBERRIES!
- Crispy tenders
- An array of delicious sauces
- Fresh apple slices with toffee dip (this could be my new addiction)
Celebrating five years
We arrived to balloons and celebration as PDQ is celebrating 5 years in business. The company is growing by leaps and bounds with the Fort Lauderdale location that I visited being only one year old. I’m very excited to watch them grow and while there are 57 PDQ locations now…you’ll be seeing LOTS more pop up over the next year.
Do yourself a favor
If you haven’t been to a PDQ before – stop in and enjoy some of the most delicious fast food chicken that you’ve ever tasted. If you have, I suggest you order the new Honey Butter Chicken and enjoy the juiciest chicken sandwich on the planet.
