“There’s no place like home.” – Frank Baum
As a travel journalist, I love to pack up and go, but in all honesty, there’s nothing like walking through the door and seeing everything that you love spread in front of you. As a traveler, I love exotic places, so it goes that I am no minimalist. I love things that remind me of places I’ve traveled, and people I’ve met, and that make me feel like I am being hugged by my home. I need my home to reflect ME!
Start with the basics
It may seem odd that I would start with simple classic pieces of furniture, but the truth is that an uncomplicated table and chairs are the perfect canvas for adding those special touches to make it your own. That way you can switch up the feel of the room by simply switching out the wall shelves, placing a candle and a simple bowl of fruit & veggies in the center of the table, and adding the posters/wall art/art prints that you love.
Planning your space
I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a full gallery wall in the master bedroom behind our bed. We don’t have a headboard and I really need something that is bold enough for my taste, yet masculine enough for my husband that will take the place of a boring headboard. The master bedroom is my husband’s escape. While I’m in the office working, I like it quiet. He spends his time watching television, listening to music, and reading there. I tried to find something that would work for both of us and while looking through some of the artwork at Desenio, I stumbled across the GALLERY WALLS section (knowing that’s what I wanted). There is a “SHOP BY ROOM” section as well as a “CATEGORIES” option and I stumbled upon the gallery photo above that actually LOOKS like our bedroom. I immediately fell in love with how dramatic this look is and knew that it would be the perfect place for Mr. S to relax. It was so easy finding inspiration once I started looking.
With so many options
How do you choose? It’s actually really easy. For me, going through the pages of Desenio Magazine helps me to both envision different options as well as to give me a look into the trends, interviews with designers as well as the MOST important “HOW TO” do it in your own home. Between the magazine and the Gallery Wall section, I can actually visualize what a grouping, a color story, or a theme might look like, as well as HOW to place my Desenio posters and art prints so that they will look balanced and how the various frame colors, styles, and types will look when grouped together.
Desenio makes it easy to search for just what you’re looking for from
- black & white and photographs
- art prints and illustrations
- best selling prints and those of famous artists
- typography and maps
- and even studio collections and influencer collaborations
It’s time to redecorate with the furniture that you already have
Consider your walls to be the blank canvas of your home, and add art from Desenio to create the surroundings that make your house feel like home.
