This post is in memory of Sheila Hopkins August 2,1935 – May 6, 2016

Mr. S, Me & my Aunt Sheila.
It has been one month since my “Aunt” Sheila passed away. She had been my mom for the past 30+ years, after my mother passed away. I loved her fiercely. She was smart (a nurse and professor of nursing), and so very quick…until Alzheimer’s hit. June being Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness month I figured that this was the perfect time to reach out and let you know more about this disease, as well as the impact it has on loved ones and what YOU can do to help raise awareness and erase the stigmas surrounding this disease. It seems that so many of us don’t understand the essential (and commonly misunderstood) truths about Alzheimer’s.
Learn
Uncover the truth about Alzheimer’s , know the 10 key warning signs and learn 10 Ways to Love your Brain on the Alzheimer’s Association website. I spent a little time on the site and learned little things that I can do reduce my risk of cognitive decline by making a few easy lifestyle changes
Support
Watch The Longest Day video. On Monday, June 20, 2016 (summer solstice, and the longest day of each year), you can support the Alzheimer’s Association with me, and people across the globe to honor family, friends, and all of those facing Alzheimer’s disease. This sunrise-to-sunset team events will raise funds for care, support and research efforts provided by the Alzheimer’s Association. If a loved one has been touched by this disease like my Aunt Sheila, this is a wonderful way to honor them.
Go Purple
I’ll be “going purple” on June 20, 2016 to show my support by turning my Facebook profile picture PURPLE for the day, wearing purple, and by tagging my social media posts with #IGoPurpleFor or #ENDALZ .
PLEASE JOIN ME
In memory of my Aunt Sheila, YOUR aunts & uncles, mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, friends and family touched by Alzheimer’s disease on June 20, 2016, join me in donning your purple to show your love, spread the word, and help increase public awareness, erase stigmas and build global support of the Alzheimer’s Association in their quest for a world without Alzheimer’s.
I’m shopping
I know that this post is about Alzheimer’s awareness, but I couldn’t help myself. When I found out that they sell purple t-shirts to wear for The Longest Day event with the hashtag #ENDALZ I had to shop for the cause.

Find this & other #ENDALZ apparel on their website
