Keeping it simple this Chanukah

Chanukah is such a time of joy for our family. We love the traditions passed down from generation to generation, and while the holiday is not religious based (like Christmas), it celebrates our strength as Jews. Here at the mansion we like to keep it fairly simple, making traditional foods and lighting the Hannukiah each of the eight nights. Dreidel is played by both adults and children (although we use chocolate gelt/coins as our prizes).

Our extended family is mixed, giving us the opportunity to share our celebrations – and sharing in the observances of others. I’d love to know YOUR family traditions for the holiday season.

I love the tradition of Chanukah, I always wished we could celebrate for more than ONE day when I was growing up!

We tend to be fairly low key and simple. We eat too much and then go for a walk afterwards so we can eat more later in the day, lol.

We do both Chanukah and Christmas in our family and that’s how I grew up as well. It’s great to celebrate so many wonderful events as a family during the the holiday season!

We get together and eat some great food then take the time to open one present at a time.

Courtney – I saw them at Pottery Barn when I was walking through the mall (trying not to walk in to the store), and had to share.

That made me smile, because it’s so true. The holidays are about eating.

My friends used to take the Jewish holidays off and tell the teacher that they celebrated both. hahahaha
