We’re lucky to have a place like Florida on our doorstep. It’s easy to travel to paradise without even needing to cross a border! The Sunshine State has so many attractions that it’s impossible to list them all. Here are a few ideas for weekend getaways depending upon your interests.
1. Fishing
Florida is a great place for fishing, especially deep-sea. You can both enjoy the excitement of landing a huge grouper or swordfish while seeing Florida from the water! A day at sea is never a day wasted. This is also a grand opportunity to split up and experience your individual passions, so one of you can go fishing while the other pursues their interests.
2. Shopping
The shopping available in Florida is beyond compare. From quaint, unique knickknacks at roadside beach stands to boutiques to designer brands in the malls, there are multiple places for the shopping savvy to find bargains or that special something to take home. Best bets for shopping include Miami and Orlando.
3. Nightlife
Miami’s nightlife is some of the best in the world. The glitterati frequent the clubs here for the young and the young at heart. If you’re still in the mood for dancing the night away, check out the strip at Miami Beach. For a quieter type of nightlife there’s always the laid-back beach bars scattered up and down the entirety of the Florida coast. Whatever your fancy, Florida caters to it all.
4. The Ocean
Whether you love swimming, surfing, or snorkeling, Florida offers great options for all of it! There’s Daytona Beach, where you can watch people drive on the sand or take in the nearby Daytona 500. There’s the clear, calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico near St. Petersburg. There’s the surf at Cocoa Beach. The Keys are full of a diversity of dive spots, and the wildlife will appeal to anyone with an interest in marine biology.
5. Islands
Look no further than the stupendously beautiful Florida Keys to experience that island vibe. Renting a sports car and driving down is one of the best ways to see these islands, especially if you have the time to meander from one to another. Each island has a completely different personality and as you travel further south, the more laid-back the island will be. Driving across the world-famous Seven Mile Bridge is worth the drive alone. Then, you’ll arrive in Key West by the end of your journey, and enjoy a pina colada at the Schooner Wharf bar as you feel your cares drift away. The sun sets and the band starts playing. You’re in paradise now.
Florida travel is always a unique experience. The state has so many different options available for visitors that it is truly one of the jewels in America’s crown. If you’ve been searching for a tropical destination that’s nearby but also a world away, then Florida is the best destination for you.
