Lord knows I’m not a Nature Girl. I understand the infatuation, I do. It’s just NOT for me. I’m not talking about the beautiful wildlife outside of my window or the billowing breezes at the beach. I totally appreciate these things. I’m just not a camper or a hiker. I think that a vacation should include someone ELSE cooking my food, making my bed and saying things like “Can I do anything else for you today?” I DO enjoy going for walks, but to take a hike in an area where there are bugs and icky things (and to get all dirty and sweaty) just isn’t my style.
That doesn’t mean that I don’t like certain ELEMENTS of camping or hiking. I love sitting on the beach in the evening, around a fire pit toasting marshmallows and being with my friends and family, and I love eating trail mix and S’mores. As a matter of fact – Mr. Z loves trail mix even more than I do and I used to make my own with our favorite dried fruit and nuts to snack on.
Recently, I was sent a BIG BOX of Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix Bars with Fruit and Nuts to try. I was shocked at how DELICIOUS it is. Nature Valley has put some of our FAVORITE ingredients all together to make a trail mix to go that I can just pop into my Gucci Purse and take with me anywhere. It’s full of almonds, raisins, peanuts and cranberries (the only thing it was missing from the way I used to make trail mix is the cashews).
I found that you can purchase the BIG boxes of 30 bars at warehouse stores and I was able to get to my local Sam’s Club pick up some Simply Fruit Roll Ups to bring with me to a beach party I’m planning on attending, so that the kids that will be there have something sweet and full of Vitamin C, instead of the usual JUNK.
Here’s what I like
The Trail Mix Bars are only 140 calories and because they have nuts, they’ve got 3 g of protein, so I can use them to replace my after workout bars.
Big boxes means there’s enough so that you’re not running back & forth to the store, so there are always treats around. The Trail Mix Bars come in a 30 bar box and the Simply Fruit Roll Ups in a 42 pack box.
I can toss these in my handbag and have them for when I or anyone else needs a snack.
They’re GREAT for a day at the beach. For some reason we always snack, because we spend so much time swimming, walking the beach looking for shells, etc.The fact that they’re individually wrapped means no beach sand getting into the little baggies of trail mix.
What I don’t like
I find myself eating them like candy. At 140 calories for the Trail Mix Bars that’s ok if you eat just ONE.
Because they come in the large Stock Up size, while they’re convenient – it also means that we have a tendency to grab them more often than we should.
Thank you to General Mills and MyBlogSpark for sending me a box of Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix for this review as well as a gift certificate to Sam’s Club to purchase MORE treats. I was in no way compensated for this post and all opinions are strictly my own.
