I always wondered why someone couldn’t create a “universal” card that would be able to handle all of your loyalty programs. As I go through my wallet (I don’t keep them on my keychain, it’s too messy looking for me) – I have 2 Grocery Cards, a CVS card, Petco, PetSmart, Best Buy, and more taking up valuable real estate in my wallet……
I know that you probably have as many of those cards that give you discounts, free products or cash back in your wallet as well. Every time I use them, I think: “someone HAS to invent something EASIER.”
Today I was surfing for things that I wanted online (okay, I was procrastinating because I just felt like being lazy) and I learned that there ARE ways to put all of your cards into one application. Unfortunately, the best of the bunch is an iPhone/iPod Touch application and since I don’t have an iPhone (I’ll tell you why I’m a Sprint girl in a future post) or Touch, I guess I’ll have to wait for a similar application to show up for MY phone.
Card Star – CardStar lets you store and quickly retrieve your rewards, club, and loyalty membership cards on your iPhone or iPod touch, where they can be scanned directly from your screen at most merchants.
- A merchant list of over 130 companies in 6 categories (Drug Store, Entertainment, Grocery, Gym, Retail and Travel) – just enter your membership number and you’re ready to go!
- Includes merchants from the US, Canada and the UK.
- Advanced options for adding cards not included in the CardStar merchant list.
- Coming soon: access to additional merchant information, coupons and promotional content
Right now Card Star is offering this FREE (in the future it should cost under $1.00) to download to your iPhone or iPod touch.
If you don’t have one of these devices, there’s no need to feel left out.
Just One Club Card – You can create ONE card with the bar codes from 8 of your “other” cards. It isn’t nearly as comprehensive as Card Star (the merchant list is much smaller) and you can only put 8 on a card. This is a print-out card, so essentially it’s a piece of paper (which for me would last about a day if I’m lucky).
TODAY one of Champagne Living’s readers left a comment (see below) that there is also a company called Your Kard that allows up to 15 different loyalty cards to be put on ONE plastic card. They do charge (it’s under $20) and the LIST of cards that they allow to be put on it is HUGE!!
It’s good to know that there are people who feel like I do about carrying around all of these cards and one day these stores will just have us scan a universal card to join their loyalty program, but until then at least we have some good life options.
