I need to be completely honest with you. I generally fall short of my New Year’s Resolutions which is why I stopped making them. Setting goals is much easier as they are definable and I can create a plan to accomplish them.
Had I started yesterday with a diet, I would have failed miserably as I ended my day with a delicious slice of chocolate frosted cake accompanied by a generous scoop of ice cream. I know from past experience that healthy living is not an all or nothing proposition and that I always use an action plan to accomplish just about anything that I want to do.
My Diet
I began again using the program that helped me to lose weight earlier this year and for the first week, I do not plan on changing anything that I eat, but rather WHEN I eat it. Yes, I’m talking about intermittent fasting. I only eat between the hours of noon and 8:00 pm. Fasting for 16 hours and eating during an 8-hour window helped me last time and honestly found myself losing weight without changing my diet at all. Of course, I did change it…A LOT and the combination mad the pounds fall off. The plan is (just like last time) to conquer my eating in stages since I have a tendency to quit if I become overwhelmed. Baby Steps.
My supplements
I know that I don’t eat all of the foods that I should and as a result, I don’t get the proper supplements. I know EXACTLY what I need, having written a column for a major vitamin company for years. I also know that the most important supplements for me right now are CoQ10 because I take a statin and it keeps the joint pain that comes from taking the drug at bay (another goal is to get off statins completely). The second supplement that I know that I need is a good probiotic.
That’s why I take Seed every night before bed. I have been taking this probiotic/prebiotic for over a month now and while I feel GREAT being on it, the biggest difference I’ve seen is in my skin. It seems to glow, it’s almost like I’ve aged backward. For those who are not meat eaters, you’ll be happy to know that it’s vegan AND they are very conscious of the environment. My first package came with a reusable jar and a smaller container to bring with me when I travel (which was smart, since I would normally not take supplements while I’m away just because I hate taking up all of that room in my suitcase with bottles).
Keeping track
Feel free to print this Action Plan that I use to keep track each day. It is the only thing that keeps me going in the right direction. I find that if I don’t write it down, I don’t do it. I keep mine on the refrigerator door so I see it every time I pass through the kitchen.
