A few days, a best friend or significant other, a background of beautiful vineyards, and some of the best restaurants in the world. What could be better? Checking into what I can honestly say is my new favorite getaway – Hotel Villagio & Spa at Estate Yountville.
Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, the Villagio at Estate Yountville redefines both luxury and relaxation. Yes, it’s surrounded by sprawling vineyards and bathed in California sunshine (and I was there during the peak of autumn so, I also had a backdrop of bright oranges, reds, and yellows), this beautiful retreat offers everything you could possibly want for an indulgent getaway. From in-house dining options to top-notch amenities, every detail of the Villagio ensures that you’ll have an unforgettable experience.
Check-in at the front desk and you’re greeted with a cheerful hello, a drink and snack where there is a rotating array of snacks on a long table (check out the cool art made from corkscrews). Key in hand, you’ll stroll past pools of water as you walk to your building where you’ll feel like you’ve been magically transported to an Italian Villa, turrets and all. This is the stay you’ve been waiting for, smack in the middle of everything from vineyards, to fabulous shopping and incredible restaurants all walkable from your doorstep.
A Luxurious Stay in Yountville
The Villagio is part of the Estate Yountville, a 22-acre property that blends modern sophistication with the rustic charm of Napa’s wine country. The rooms and suites exude comfort and elegance, featuring plush bedding that envelopes you as you sink in for a night’s sleep. The spacious layouts are a mixture of contemporary in a vintage backdrop (we fell in love with the chandelier), and private outdoor areas where you can throw open a set of French doors and step out on the balcony to sip your morning coffee or unwind with a glass of wine as the sun sets with the sounds of water flowing beneath you.
If you’re anything like me, you love taking a long bath to wind down and the tub in your bathroom is perfect for a little indulgence at the end of the day. This is the bathroom I’ve been dreaming of with great lighting, lots of mirrors, and a rain shower combo.
While I came to Yountville to experience the vineyards and food, I know that it would have been just as perfect a time if I had never left the resort. From a dip in the pool to enjoying a crafted cocktail at the bar or brought outside to enjoy by the firepit, it’s a great getaway.
The resort’s serene surroundings set the tone for relaxation, while the staff ensures that your every need is met with precision and care. Whether it’s arranging a private vineyard tour or offering personalized dining recommendations, the team at Villagio goes above and beyond. I found myself at the front desk each morning getting “insider” recommendations for our itinerary each day.
Start Your Day with a Complimentary Breakfast
Each morning at the Villagio begins with a complimentary breakfast that sets the standard for indulgence. Served in the sitting area with a roaring fire, in a warm, inviting setting, the breakfast spread includes fresh, locally sourced ingredients that highlight the region’s rich culinary offerings. From fluffy pastries to seasonal fruit and local yogurts, there’s something to delight every palate. Pair your meal with freshly brewed coffee or juice for the perfect start to your day.
After breakfast, unwind with a relaxing dip in the hot tub or pool. Recline under shaded umbrellas, the soothing sound of bubbling fountains in the background, as you peruse the poolside service menu. As evening falls, cozy up at fireside tables and savor the warm, inviting ambiance.
Dining Delights: Bottega and Ottimo
When it comes to dining, the Villagio offers an unparalleled culinary experience. During my stay, I had the pleasure of dining at Bottega the late Chef Michael Chiarello’s acclaimed restaurant located at the V Marketplace as a guest of Shafer Vineyards (I had the pleasure of dining with winemaker Elias Fernandez at dinner who not only suggested the wines, but what to have for dinner as well). Bottega’s menu is truly a love letter to Italian cuisine, featuring handcrafted pasta, perfectly seared meats, and an extensive wine list that highlights the best of Napa Valley. The ambiance feels sophisticated and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for anything from a special night out with a date to the large group we had (we enjoyed dinner in one of the private rooms).
While I didn’t have the chance to dine at Ottimo, its reputation for fresh, artisanal dishes and a marketplace atmosphere. Ottimo is known for its casual yet refined approach to Italian fare, offering everything from wood-fired pizzas to house-made gelato. It’s definitely on my list for my next visit to Napa Valley.
The V Marketplace at Estate Yountville
A stay at the Villagio wouldn’t be complete without exploring the V Marketplace at Estate Yountville. This unique shopping and dining destination brings together boutique shops, artisanal food vendors, and curated wine tastings. Whether you’re picking up a one-of-a-kind souvenir or indulging in a quick bite, the Marketplace offers a vibrant atmosphere that complements the Villagio’s luxurious vibe.
Easy Strolling Through Yountville
One of the best parts about staying at the Villagio is its central location in Yountville, making it incredibly easy to explore this charming town on foot. Just steps away, you’ll find Bouchon Bakery, a must-visit spot for their delectable pastries and coffee. Enjoy a leisurely walk along Washington Street, where you’ll discover quaint boutiques, wine-tasting rooms, and world-class restaurants.
For wine enthusiasts, the proximity to some of Napa Valley’s most celebrated vineyards is unbeatable. Don’t miss a visit to Shafer Vineyards, where you can sip wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon while soaking in the beautiful scenery. Another excellent choice is Jessup Cellars, renowned for its approachable yet sophisticated wines. Yountville’s walkability adds an extra layer of convenience and charm to your stay, allowing you to immerse yourself in the heart of Napa Valley without ever needing a car.
