When going away, this doesn’t mean you have to stop being active. In fact, when on holiday, this is the perfect time to be active, especially if you are travelling to a destination with stunning scenery. Just picture this, you are in Miami, the weather is hot, there is little wind and you go for a casual run along the beachfront on South Beach – you’ll enjoy beautiful landscapes and feel guilt-free when it comes to indulging at dinner, win-win!
When away, there are so many ways to be active, some without you feeling like you are specifically going for a workout. Depending on where you are, you could go kayaking or wakeboarding, you could go for a run, or you could include a few days of hiking, the possibilities are endless.
Below we look into three different ways to stay active when travelling.
Water Sports
Being on the water is magical, and when you are out on it, it never feels like you are working out. If your destination allows it, you could try booking a kayaking trip and exploring the local area on the water. If you want something more adrenaline-filled, scuba diving is always an option, where you’ll get to dive and explore marine life. Kite surfing, paddleboarding, water basketball or surfing are a few other water sports that you could try, which will get you moving.
Hiking
No matter the destination, there are always a few hikes that you can do in the local area. Hiking is great as you can be active, whilst not doing something too strenuous, risking getting an injury. When hiking, you’ll often see places that are only accessible on foot, meaning the surroundings are often unspoilt and very natural. You’ll also get plenty of time to catch up with your loved ones and burn plenty of calories at the same time. If you have enough holiday, we would recommend tagging on a couple of days for a self-guided hike.
Land activities
As you can imagine, there are a myriad of activities you can do on land, during your breakaway. To start with, there will be many gyms that will offer day passes, which you can purchase as and when you want to work out. Using apps like Meet-Up, you could book a social football session or you could organise a tennis match with the person you are on holiday with. A lot of places will offer bike hire which you could rent out and explore the area, or as mentioned above you could go on a run in the morning or evening. If you’re into snow sports, you can try snowmobiles such as the Polaris mountain sled, which you can either buy or rent to explore the winter landscape. You can also enjoy other activities like skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing to make the most of the snowy surroundings. If there are any sports you enjoy playing at home, do some research before your holiday and see if there are any social sessions which you can drop into.
