Opal Grand Oceanfront Delray Beach, FL
There’s something funny about the way we treat vacations as adults. We plan them. We talk about them. We save articles about them. And then somehow… we don’t book them. Life gets busy. Work piles up. The family needs something. The house needs something. There’s always a reason to wait just a little longer.
But here’s what I’ve learned after years of travel, raising a family, building a career, and trying very hard to balance responsibility with joy. Rest is not a reward you earn after exhaustion. It’s a ritual you build into your life before you reach burnout.
For me, one of my most important rituals has become simple. Every now and then, I give myself permission to book the trip. Not someday. Not when everything lines up perfectly. Now.
And honestly, this might be exactly the moment to do it.

Ritual 1. Stop Waiting for the “Perfect Time”
We tend to think vacations require a big reason. A milestone birthday. An anniversary. A celebration. But some of my favorite trips happened simply because I decided we needed a reset.
You already know how much I love Opal Collection resorts. They’ve been our first choice for vacations for years, and when we needed a beautiful, welcoming place for our son’s honeymoon, choosing one of their resorts felt completely natural. There’s nothing quite as romantic as a toes in the sand dinner on Sunset Key at Latitudes (the restaurant of Sunset Cottages and Opal Key). That familiarity, that sense of being taken care of, turns travel from stressful planning into instant relaxation (oh, and some of my favorite resort spas as well).
Right now, Opal Collection is offering something rare. A three-day Spring Flash Sale with up to 30 percent off stays across all 30 of their East Coast luxury hotels and resorts. It runs March 2 through March 4 for travel through July 31. In other words, the window is short, but the opportunity is wide open.
Sometimes the ritual is simply recognizing when the universe hands you a nudge.
My Tip: If you find yourself saying “we should really plan something,” open the calendar immediately. Pick dates before doubt sneaks in.
What I Do: I book first, then organize life around it. Somehow, everything always works out.

Ritual 2. Choose How You Want to Feel, Not Just Where You Want to Go
One thing I love about Opal Collection is that every property feels different, yet equally special. Some trips call for beach walks and ocean breezes. Others need mountain air or charming coastal towns where mornings start slowly with coffee and a view.
Maybe you want Florida sunshine at places like Opal Grand in Delray Beach or Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa. Maybe blooming harbors in New England sound like the reset you need. Or maybe a lakeside Adirondack retreat at The Sagamore Resort feels like exactly the quiet your mind has been craving.
Instead of asking, “Where should we go?” Try asking how do I want to feel when I wake up there? Relaxed. Inspired. Reconnected.
My Tip: Your mood chooses the destination better than any travel guide ever could.
What I Do: I picture my morning routine somewhere new. Ocean balcony or mountain porch. The answer usually becomes obvious.

Ritual 3. Make Rest Non-Negotiable
We schedule appointments for everyone else. Doctor visits. Meetings. Haircuts. Commitments. Yet rest remains optional.
That mindset changed for me over time. Travel became part of my wellness routine, not an escape from life but a way to return to it feeling better. Even a short stay can reset your perspective. A few mornings without rushing. Dinners that last longer. Walks without checking the clock.
Some of my favorite Opal stays weren’t long vacations. Just quick getaways that reminded me how good it feels to step outside my daily routine.
My Tip: You don’t need two weeks away. Sometimes three nights are enough to change everything.
What I Do: I look for weekday escapes or shorter trips that feel manageable but still indulgent.

Ritual 4. Say Yes Before You Talk Yourself Out of It
Here’s the truth. We are very good at convincing ourselves not to go. Too busy. Too expensive. Too complicated.
That’s why sales like this matter. Up to 30 percent off luxury stays makes the decision easier, especially when you already know the experience will be worth it. The Opal Collection Spring Flash Sale includes everything from beachfront Florida resorts to boutique Nashville stays and classic New England escapes.
Sometimes practicality and pleasure actually meet in the middle.
My Tip: Treat booking like self-care. Because it is.
What I Do: I remind myself that memories age better than things. Always.

Ritual 5. Remember That You Deserve It
This might be the most important ritual of all.
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to feel guilty about rest or joy that’s just for us. But life isn’t meant to be lived entirely in between obligations. Travel reconnects us with curiosity. With each other. With ourselves.
Every time I arrive at an Opal resort, there’s a moment when I exhale without realizing I was holding my breath. That feeling alone is reason enough to go.
My Tip: Stop waiting for permission. Consider this yours.
What I Do: I book the trip, pack the bag, and trust that stepping away is sometimes the most productive thing I can do.
