Welcome to my weekly series of little resets and easy shifts. The kind that don’t take much time, don’t cost a fortune, but somehow make life feel lighter, brighter, and a little more joyful. These aren’t about perfection; they’re about those small wins that remind you to pause, take care of yourself, and celebrate the everyday and even give yourself a sense of accomplishment.
Life can get busy, sometimes downright overwhelming, but I’ve learned that adding just one extra thing once a week can make a world of difference. It’s not about spending hours in front of the mirror or buying every product on the shelf; it’s about intentionally carving out a small ritual that feels indulgent, grounding, and doable.
These are the little extras I’ve woven into my weekly rhythm. Things that don’t take much time, but help me reset, recharge, and feel like I’m taking care of myself in a way that’s both meaningful and realistic.
1. The At-Home Facial: A Reset for Your Skin
Once a week, set aside twenty to thirty minutes for an at-home facial. Begin with a thorough cleanse. Take your time with it, using slow circular motions instead of rushing. Afterward, reach for a gentle exfoliator to slough away the dullness. This isn’t something you should do every day (our skin is delicate), but once a week, it’s just enough to reveal that glow underneath.
After exfoliation, apply a mask that suits your skin’s needs. Hydration masks are perfect if your skin feels tight, while a clay-based option can help if you’re feeling oily or congested. The trick is to really relax while it sits. Lie back, put on some soothing music, and let the mask do its job. Finish with a rich moisturizer, applied with upward strokes, almost like you’re giving yourself a mini massage.
I also make sure to do an undereye mask at LEAST once a week (because that’s the spot that shows the MOST aging – at least for me).
- My tip: I keep a small bowl and spoon in the bathroom just for mixing masks. Sometimes I’ll layer two different masks – one hydrating on the cheeks and one clarifying on the T-zone because our skin rarely has just one need.
- What I use: I love using Dieux Forever Eye Masks. You can use them again and again, and you simply put your favorite serum on under your eyes and cover it with these masks. I love that they’re reusable AND I can use products that may not come in a mask (like my favorite Shiseido Benefiance Eye Cream).
2. Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment: A Little Luxury
Your hair deserves its own special treatment. Once a week, swap your regular conditioner for something deeper. Apply it generously from mid-length to ends, then comb it through with a wide-tooth comb to make sure every strand is coated.
Here’s the secret: don’t just rinse it right away. Wrap your hair in a warm towel and let the conditioner sit for at least fifteen minutes. The heat helps the product sink in more effectively. If you can, use this time to sip tea, read, or just sit quietly.
- My tip: Instead of just rinsing the conditioner out with warm water, I always finish with a quick, cool rinse. It seals the cuticle and leaves my hair shinier.
- What I use: I use a hair mask by Boom Silver that’s specifically for gray (and blonde) hair. Not only does it make my hair smooth, but gray hair looks silvery when I use it.
3. Body Scrub and Oil Ritual: Skin That Glows Everywhere
We often focus on our faces, but our bodies deserve attention too. Once a week, take the time to use a gentle body scrub in the shower. Start at your feet and work your way up in circular motions, stimulating circulation and exfoliating at the same time.
After you rinse, while your skin is still slightly damp, apply a nourishing body oil or rich cream. This locks in hydration far better than waiting until your skin is completely dry. Plus, it feels like a small spa moment in your own bathroom.
- My tip: I always apply oil before I step out of the shower, while I’m still standing on the mat. It feels a little indulgent, but it saves time and leaves my skin feeling softer all week.
- What I use: I use Touch’d by my best friend Rachel from Salty and Stylish, but she stopped making it. So, I’m going to start making my own with
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup sweet almond oil
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4. A Weekly Hand & Foot Revival
Our hands and feet work hard for us and often get overlooked. Once a week, give them the attention they deserve. Start with a soak in warm water with a pinch of Epsom salt if you have it handy. Then, gently push back cuticles, exfoliate with a scrub or pumice stone, and finish with a thick cream. Slip on cotton socks or gloves afterward and let the moisture really soak in.
Not only does this make your hands and feet feel pampered, but it also helps your nails look healthier and more polished, even if you skip the color.
My tip: I love massaging a drop of facial oil into my cuticles. It absorbs quickly and keeps them soft between manicures.
What I use: I keep Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salts* by my tub for both this and soaking. My favorite is the lavender scent.
5. A Weekly Mind Reset
Taking care of yourself isn’t just about skin and hair. Once a week, I like to add something to reset my mind. That might be a longer bath with no interruptions, a half-hour with a book I’ve been meaning to read, or even just sitting outside in the fresh air without looking at my phone. Think of it as a mental exfoliation, like sweeping away the clutter that builds up during the week.
Pick a ritual that feels soothing to you, and treat it with the same importance as your skincare. It’s not wasted time; it’s what gives you the energy and clarity to show up fully in everything else you do.
- My tip: I buy notebooks and jot down whatever comes to mind. Sometimes gratitude, sometimes random thoughts, and sometimes just a list of what I want to achieve. It clears the mental cobwebs better than anything else.
- What I use: Aside from the ones that are gifted to me, my favorites are plain hardcover sketchbooks* and old school composition pads* (the ones we had to use in school).
Wrapping It Up
Adding one “extra” a week doesn’t mean overhauling your life, it means being intentional about giving yourself a little more care than usual. These small rituals don’t just make you look better; they make you feel better, inside and out.
The beauty of it all? You don’t have to do every single one. Start with just one ritual that feels doable, and let it become a habit. You might be surprised at how much lighter, brighter, and more yourself you feel when you add that one extra thing.
