#IYKYK – it’s been a summer! If you’re a Floridian you know that it’s almost October, the temperature is still in the 90s, the humidity has been incredibly heavy and we just had (depending on where you live) either a hurricane or a tropical storm. I don’t know about you, but after all of this I need an escape, but I have been so busy that finding the time without spending a small fortune has made it impossible. Then I remembered that trip I took back in May on the Celebrity Reflection for 3 nights (a weekend getaway) and realized THAT was doable. It’s an easy trip out of Fort Lauderdale, not expensive, and one of the easiest trips that I’ve taken in years (the kind where everyone can find something to do, eat, and go without complaining – whether with kids, as a couple or a cranky old man like my husband). When you think of a weekend escape that combines a bit of luxury, relaxation, and just the right amount of adventure, a cruise on the Reflection with a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas checks all the boxes. Whether traveling as a family, with friends, or just as a couple, this weekend cruise offers a little something for everyone—a dash of relaxation, a splash of fun, and plenty of memories.
Boarding With Good Behavior 😉
One of the things I really liked as someone who’s cruised a lot is how easily Celebrity transitions you from land to sea. We boarded the Reflection from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale (less than a 2-hour drive from my home on the Treasure Coast). Parking at the Palm Parking garage across the way was convenient, and because Celebrity gives you an arrival time to reduce the time spent in line, checking in is a breeze. I opted to take my luggage with me, as I only had a small carry-on for the weekend, but if you choose to have them bring your luggage to your cabin, Celebrity will take and tag it for you (if you cruise, you know what a plus this is).
I had Mr. S. with me, and we all know how impatient he can be waiting for the stateroom to be ready. Another Celebrity PLUS is that your cabin will be ready and available to go to as soon as you board.
A Balcony Cabin TDF
I’ve been cruising since the late 1990s and have probably been on at least 30+ cruises. My first was an inside cabin (not because of price, but because I was afraid that I’d get seasick on the “outside” area of the ship). After that first cruise, I was ALL about the balcony. There is NOTHING like relaxing on your private oasis watching the world pass by as you sip champagne (or drink your coffee in the morning). For me, this is a non-negotiable. It’s my ahh… moment on every cruise. While most veranda/balcony cabins are similar on all of the ships, there were a few things that stood out in the Reflection.
- The chairs on the balcony are COMFORTABLE and ADJUSTABLE (says the 5’0″ woman with a 6’2″ husband)
- The bed was comfy WITHOUT having to request extra padding (no egg crate topper for me)
- There is breathing room (cruisers know what I’m talking about) the cabin does not feel cramped
- The desk & dresser layout is smart and while I wasn’t planning to work, there was just enough room if I wanted to (and little enough so that I didn’t).
- There were both 2 US as well as 1 European plug available (I always bring a USB adapter with at least 2 slots for our phones).
- A bathroom & shower that my 6’2″ husband fit into (thank goodness)
- The aforementioned bathroom was WELL STOCKED with lots and lots of towels (and the usual toiletries)
- Free continental breakfast via Room Service (because you don’t want to see my smiling face before I’ve had coffee)
Setting Sail on the Celebrity Reflection
From the moment you step aboard the Reflection, you’re enveloped in an art gallery at sea that’s just glitz and glam enough to be fun. Part of Celebrity Cruises’ award-winning Solstice Class, the ship stands out with its sophisticated design, impressive amenities, and curated experiences that cater to both relaxation and entertainment.
One of the first things you’ll notice is the layout of the ship, from the grand atrium to the spacious and thoughtfully designed staterooms. Whether you’ve opted for a suite with a private veranda or a chic interior room, you’ll find comfort, style, and plenty of personal space to unwind. For a weekend getaway, the Celebrity Reflection offers the perfect balance of tranquility and lively entertainment options.
Highlights of the Experience
- The Lawn Club: One of Celebrity’s most iconic features, this real grass lawn at sea is perfect for lounging, playing lawn games, or enjoying a casual picnic while watching the ocean stretch to the horizon. It’s the kind of place where you can sip a cocktail, breathe in the salty air, and feel miles away from your daily routine.
- Fine Dining: Celebrity Cruises is known for its excellent dining options, and Reflection does not disappoint. From the indulgent cuisine at Murano, where French-inspired dishes take center stage, to the playful Mediterranean flavors at Blu (a favorite for those staying in AquaClass staterooms), every meal feels like an event. For a casual option, the Oceanview Café offers a wide variety of international dishes in a buffet setting with panoramic ocean views.
- The Spa: If relaxation is what you’re after, the Canyon Ranch SpaClub onboard is an absolute haven. Treat yourself to a rejuvenating massage or facial, and take advantage of the sauna and steam rooms, all designed to melt away stress. AquaClass guests enjoy additional perks like exclusive access to the Persian Garden, a serene thermal suite with stunning views of the ocean.
- Entertainment: Evenings aboard the Reflection can be as lively or as laid-back as you desire. Take in a Broadway-style production at the main theater, enjoy live music in the lounges, or test your luck at the casino like I did. For something a bit more low-key, a movie under the stars or a nightcap at the Martini Bar could be the perfect way to wind down.
Arriving at Perfect Day at CocoCay
After a relaxing day and night on board, you’ll wake up to the sight of Perfect Day at CocoCay off your balcony or the deck, a private island in the Bahamas owned by Royal Caribbean, Celebrity’s sister brand. This vibrant island is designed to offer a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, with activities ranging from the thrilling to the leisurely.
Perfect Day at CocoCay is just that—a picture-perfect island with palm-fringed beaches, crystal-clear waters, and colorful attractions. From adrenaline-pumping waterslides to serene beach cabanas, CocoCay is a little slice of Bahamian paradise with something for everyone.
Things to Do on Perfect Day at CocoCay
- Thrill Waterpark: If you’re traveling with kids or just looking for a little excitement, the Thrill Waterpark is a must. The park features Daredevil’s Peak, the tallest waterslide in North America, along with a wave pool and a variety of other slides. It’s an action-packed way to start your day on the island.
- Up, Up and Away: For panoramic views of the island and the surrounding turquoise waters, the Up, Up and Away helium balloon ride lifts you 450 feet above CocoCay. It’s an unforgettable way to take in the beauty of the Bahamas from the sky.
- Chill Island: If relaxation is more your speed, head to Chill Island. This quieter section of CocoCay offers pristine beaches, calm waters, and beachside cabanas for rent. Grab a lounge chair, sip on that Pina Colada you’ve been talking about all year, and let the day slip by in peace.
- Oasis Lagoon: This sprawling freshwater pool is the largest in the Caribbean and is perfect for both families and couples. With swim-up bars and sun loungers in the water, Oasis Lagoon is an ideal spot to enjoy a laid-back afternoon.
- Coco Beach Club: If you’re looking for a more elevated experience, the Coco Beach Club offers a taste of exclusivity. You can rent an overwater cabana (complete with your own slide into the sea!), enjoy the 2,600-square-foot beachfront infinity pool, and indulge in premium dining options. It’s luxury in every sense of the word and the perfect treat for a romantic getaway.
- Snorkeling and Watersports: The crystal-clear waters around the cay are perfect for snorkeling. There’s a sunken plane wreck to explore, along with vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life. For those who prefer to stay above the water, jet skiing, parasailing, and kayaking are all available.
Dining at CocoCay
When your tummy starts growling, there are lots of delicious dining options. You’ll find a variety of complimentary restaurants and snack shacks throughout the island, including the popular Skipper’s Grill and Chill Grill, both offering a range of barbecue, burgers, salads, and more. For those enjoying the Coco Beach Club, an elevated menu with fresh seafood and gourmet dishes is part of the VIP experience.
The Perfect Blend of Relaxation and Adventure
A weekend getaway on the Celebrity Reflection with a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay is the perfect combination of relaxation, luxury, and fun. Whether you’re lounging on Chill Island, racing down waterslides at the waterpark, or enjoying a gourmet meal aboard the Reflection, the experience feels like a world away from everyday life.
For families, the variety of activities ensures that everyone, from toddlers to teens, has something to enjoy. Couples will appreciate the romantic spots on both the ship and the island, from candlelit dinners to secluded beach cabanas. And if you’re traveling with friends, the laid-back atmosphere and exciting options for entertainment and adventure make this cruise the perfect setting for a memorable trip.
Final Thoughts
One of the things that I loved about this particular itinerary was that there were no days at sea. The Perfect Day getaway on the Reflection is designed to make the most of your weekend. You can easily take a little time off on Friday afternoon and make the sailing, spend Saturday and Sunday in the Bahamas (we were docked in Coco Cay on Saturday and Sunday in Nassau), with walk-off disembarkation at 7 am, just in time to get to work on Monday morning. In just a few days, you’ll return from this weekend getaway feeling refreshed and recharged, which is just what you’ve been needing. Whether it’s relaxing on your balcony, or finally spending time on a beach, this is exactly what you’ve been needing for a reset.
