NYC Eats on a budget

BlogHer is a whole 3 months away, but the buzz about New York is already starting. We’re choosing which break-out sessions we want to attend, planning our parties, and making all of our reservations.

I’ve seen a LOT of talk about how expensive it is in the city and thought I’d offer up a few inexpensive ways to take a bite out of the Big Apple without it taking a toll on your wallet.

First up Cheap Eating!

According to Frommers Free and Dirt Cheap, there are still some great finds in the city that will give you that taste of New York for a little nothing…

The Bagel is a New York institution and for $1.00 you can enjoy the the REAL DEAL (not those designer bagels that have little resemblence to the chewy texture and great flavor). Stop in to
Kossar’s Bialys (367 Grand St.; tel. 212/473-4810; www.kossarsbialys.com  for a little NOSH!

One slice of authentic NY pizza and you’ll be wondering what it is that you’ve been eating all of these years that tries to PASS for pizza. At $2.50 for a “New York Slice” – one taste of the crispy crust and homemade sauce and you’ll be back for more. Check out  Sal’s & Carmine’s Pizza (2671 Broadway;
tel. 212/663-7651)

The New York City hot dog is an institution that is a must have. You’ll find street vendors selling them with quintessential NY toppings, but for the REAL NY experience go to  Gray’s Papaya (2090 Broadway; tel. 212/799-0243; plus other locations)

I’ll have MORE tips for navigating your wallet while at BlogHer (and other travels) coming soon. If you want to read MORE Cheap NY Eats – check out Frommers.com.

If you see me at BlogHer and like what I’m wearing…you can get it too! Just go to ShabbyApple.com
