My Healthy Choice

Don’t you just hate it when you state something emphatically and then have to EAT YOUR WORDS? Do you remember a week or two ago when I told you how much I DISLIKE frozen dinners? How can I put this delicately….

I’ve actually found a frozen dinner that I can eat. I still prefer freshly made food over anything out of the microwave, but I got the chance to try the Healthy Choice All Natural Entrées and it was good..Granted I’ve only tried ONE of the varieties and I chose very carefully, making sure that it was something that I THOUGHT I’d enjoy (I mean, why subject myself to Salisbury steak when I could have something that might actually be edible).

Mom Central had sent me a couple of coupons so that I could try these. After the last frozen food debacle, I wondered why I was replaying this scenario. But you know, I’m always game to TRY something, even if it’s ONE TIME. So, off I went with my coupons for Healthy Choice. Once at the grocery store I was faced with a HUGE decision. Did I want to try..

Healthy Choice Café Steamers

These are BOWLS that contain a steamer basket that holds meat, vegetables and pasta, rice or potatoes and the sauce. By separating the ingredients, the flavor of the foods are brought out and because they’re steamed the vegetables, pasta, potatoes, etc. don’t come out overcooked and mushy.

Healthy Choice Meals

These are what I THOUGHT would be generic frozen dinners. I was shocked to find that they us premium ingredients and very “IN” flavors and come in both FROZEN as well as shelf stable varieties.

Healthy Choice Soup

These I actually already had in the house, becuaw they’re much heart healthier that the usual canned soup and my husband likes to heat up a can of soup for lunch if I’m gone for the day. They come in both canned as well as those cute little microwave bowls.

Health Choice All Natural Entrées

This was my choice. When I saw the VARIETY as well as the fact that they use extra virgin olive oils, whole grains, etc. in these dinners, I knew that the flavor would be less likely to have a typical frozen dinner taste.

I tried the Pumpkin Squash Ravioli. I love the fact that it is made with real extra virgin olive oil, and pumpkin ravioli that is covered in a butter-sage sauce, asparagus and butternut squash. If this doesn’t sound like your typical microwave meal, you’re right. I actually ENJOYED eating it (and as you can see from the pictures – I HAD to have a slice of fresh French bread to sop up the remainder of the delicious sauce).

The varieties Healthy Choice Meals is amazing with choices like

  • Lobster Cheese Ravioli
  • Sweet Asian Potstickers
  • Portabella Spinach Parmesan
  • Chicken Pad Thai
  • Cajun Style Chicken and Shrimp
  • and TONS more....

So, what did I learn from this experience? NEVER SAY NEVER – it’ll come back and bite you in the butt. Oh, and I also learned that if I’m in a rush and want something quick, healthy and delicious – I could actually eat a Healthy Choice Entrée and ENJOY it.

Check out the Healthy Choice Website for $1.00 off coupons  and more.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Healthy Choice and received a sample to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate
