Moving day is a rush, and anyone who’s ever lived through one could tell you so. The movers have arrived early, you’re not even dressed yet, and half the boxes are still open and unlabeled.
You’re moving at light speed, trying to get things all packed up properly, so nothing is going to smash or shatter, and you completely forget halfway through what boxes are supposed to go in what room.
All that cardboard simply blends together! All in all, you feel totally uncoordinated, and you’re stressed out before you’ve even had a chance to hand the keys back.
So let’s knock this experience on the head. If you’ve got a moving day coming up, here are the most important ways to get organized.

You Need to Keep Daily Bits in Easy Reach
Daily bits, such as snacks, drinks, toilet paper, and your toothbrush, should not be packed into the same boxes as everything else.
Put all these items into a bag or box that you pack into your vehicle, which doesn’t get sealed or locked up in a removal truck. They need to be in easy reach at all times, as you never know when or where you’re going to need them.
At the very least, everyone should have a water bottle they can carry with them. If you have pets, make sure there’s a water bowl you can set down for them to use. If you’re moving long-distance and have a cat, you can also invest in a travel litter tray that lets them use the loo on the move.
Transport Important Items Yourself
Important items include anything actually valuable, such as old crockery made of a rare china or even containing gold, as well as the documents that help you prove who you are.
Never let your family’s passports or birth certificates wander off. Pack them into your own vehicle, and keep them all together in the same bag or file.
Always Keep Your Own Inventory
No matter who you’re working with to pack up and move, you’re going to need your one inventory list.
Most movers will provide one and follow this, based on what you report to them, but you want to be sure there’s a written record of everything you own on your side too. It’s what the experts at Southside Moving and Storage will always recommend, so we will too!
This way you can be sure that you have everything when you get into your new home – and if anything’s missing, you have an exact itemised list of what’s missing, what box it was packed in, and when it was moved.
When you’re about to move, you need to be coordinated! So make sure you have the crucial things above at the top of your priority list. You need your packing system, of course, but you also need your inventory list to keep track, your important items on hand, and the daily essentials neatly packed within easy reach.
