Unfortunately, I’ll be away from the 2nd to the 5th on one of my jaunts and have to miss this year’s ALWAYS FABULOUS Art Basel. For those in the Miami area, or traveling TOO Miami, this is the not to be missed art event of the year. I’d venture to say that Art Basel is THE MOST IMPORTANT art event of the year in the United States.
Art Basel is the sister event to Switzerland’s Art Basel, the most prestigious art show worldwide for the past 41 years. Joining together an international selection of some of the top galleries with an exciting program of special exhibitions, parties and crossover events featuring music, film, architecture and design. All sites are located in Miami’s beautiful Art Deco District.
With more than 250 leading art galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa, Art Basel offers 20th and 21st century artworks by over 2,000 artists. The galleries are among the world’s most respected art dealers, offering exceptional pieces by both renowned artists and edgy newcomers alike. Special exhibition sections feature young galleries, performance art, public art projects and video art. This is an amazing place for art lovers of all kinds, as the array of contemporary are and rarely seen museum-calibre pieces are available to the public via gallery tours.

I love art fairs. We have some nice (but small) ones here in the St. Louis area. I think it's a great way for folks to see art in a less stuffy manner than what many art museums show (I personally love art museums though too). That piece in your photo in the post is fabulous – I need a huge white room with lots of natural light and tall ceilings so one day I can buy (after I win the lottery) some of this big bold pieces to enjoy in my own home!
