When it’s HOT in Vegas and you have a bunch of your best friends looking for a COOL night out, I’ve got JUST the place to go.
The Minus 5 Ice Lounge, located at the rear of the casino floor at the elegant Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in Las Vegas (on the South end of “the strip”).
While at BlogWorld Expo, I gathered a group of blogger friends and headed out to see if this might just be the Oasis in the dessert.
Having NEVER been to an ice bar before, I only had what I had read online to go on. Many of us were trying to ESCAPE the cold weather to come to Las Vegas and I had visions of shivering and skating across the floor. WAS I EVER WRONG.
Greeted at the entrance with warm boots, a long down coat and gloves we were ushered into what looked like a palace of ice. Well, maybe palace isn’t the word (it’s not that large), but the ice walls, tables, benches, bar and glasses gave it a magical almost fairy tale look.
As you might guess, there are no electric blenders whirring (think of the melting potential – LOL), but rather a sleek menu of Vodka based drinks that were exotic enough for the adventurous and serious enough for the simple drinker. Me? I enjoyed a fresh fruit based cocktail that included vodka (of course) and some banana liqueur that kept my insides warm while my outsides were at -5 Celsius (that’s 23 degrees Fahrenheit – for those LONG out of school).
Here’s a little HINT for you if you visit. If you move around (dance with the penguin or rock to the music with friends), you won’t notice the cold. Sit your behind down on the animal pelted benches for any length of time and you’ll last maybe 30 – 45 minutes before you feel the chill. We showed the penguin a little blogger love and snuggled in nice and close with each other, With the temperature hovering about 105 outside during the day, I have to say that it was a bit of ahhhh…to be able to see your own breath when you talk.
While I went in thinking “what a fun novelty” – like Disney, Ill be back.
FYI – if you’re going with a group, you’ll want to get some of the photos they take. If you’re planning on doing that, the VIP PACKAGE deals work out much better than just paying the cover and getting a drink. Plus you get to wear a FUR coat and get a nice warm hat (to keep).
Also – Follow Minus 5 on Facebook and Twitter, and sign up for their Minus5 Become a V Ice P and be the first to hear about deals, special events and more
This is one of those things that should be on your MUST DO list when visiting Las Vegas.I mean, look at us. We’re having a GREAT TIME!
Thank you to the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino as well as the Minus 5 Ice Lounge for hosting my blogger get together. Of course as always, all opinions are strictly my own.
