One of the premises of Champagne Living is to fill your life with things that you LOVE. Not just STUFF mind you, but people and pleasures that provide that wonderful feeling inside EACH and EVERY time that you see them. The mansion is filled with art and collectibles that remind me of places that I’ve been, people I’ve met and items that put a grin on my face (like Japanese tin toys, Indian Clubs and artwork in primary colors). Retro makes my heart LEAP, so when I was approached by Catstudio, to take a look at their pillows, glasses, etc. you could hear a “WHOO HOO” coming from my office.
One of my most PRIZED collections is of souvenir scarves from the 50’s. You know, the one’s that are of places like the “Isle of Capri” or even “Central Park.” Yes, I wear them – collections are meant to be ENJOYED and not STORED AWAY. So, it was without a doubt that I would fall in love with Catstudio‘s Geography collection of glasses, pillows, dish towels, etc. (they also offer aprons, totes and trays).
The pillows (I have a New York one on the guest bed), are adorned with original art and are HAND EMBROIDERED. I just keep thinking what a FUN Mother’s Day gift they’d make for a mom who wants to remember her home town or a favorite vacation spot (or even a place she’s always DREAMED of going). At $155 each, the price may seem a bit steep, but considering the work that goes into each of these pieces of art and the YEARS of enjoyment you’ll get each time you look at them, they’re well worth the price.
I was also sent a couple of drinking glasses to check out. These frosted 15 oz. tumblers (good size for an ice tea) are illustrated with spots that you’ll recognize.
For example: I have a New York glass that includes a Yellow Cab, Madison Square Garden, Battery Park, Fulton St. Fish Market and LOTS more that give these glasses the look and feel of souvenir glasses from decades past. I love the fact that I can purchase my choice of City, State, Countries, Parks, or Region.
I’m sitting here drinking from a New York City glass, thinking about how I’ll be there in a couple of weeks. It’s fun, it’s funky and it’s FABULOUS.
Right now I’m going back and forth between writing this post and shopping on their site. I’m going to purchase a glass of my FAVORITE country (France) as well as of my home state (RI), my new home (FL) and Martha’s Vineyard (our old summer haunt). At $12 a piece, these are a no brainer (minimum order of four). I can both display them as art as well as use them daily. Did I mention that they feature seven colors and matte gold on each glass? The only difficulty I’m having is whether to display them in the dining room or the kitchen…decisions, decisions.
For those of you into Aprons (and I know that a lot of people not only wear but collect these), they offer a culinary collection as well. Also available from Catstudio’s selection of art products are serving trays, TOTE BAGS and dish towels that offer the Geography collection (like the pillows and glasses). If you’re into the retro look like I am, you’ll go absolutely crazy for their items.
