You should see my dining room table. WAIT…you CAN’T see it….because it’s covered in packages. Most of them are already boxed up and I’ve got piles of shipping paper, tape, etc. lost in-between the packages. You see, I live in Florida….but EVERYONE else in my family (friends included), live SOMEPLACE ELSE. Most of them are still up in RI (as well as UT, etc). That means that Chanukah (and Christmas) means MAILING SEASON.
Now I’m faced with the many shipping choices. What a pain in the REAR (if I wanted this much of a pain in the rear, I’d have gotten a butt lift…LOL)! Unfortunately, this is one of those projects that I handle myself (I can’t expect the cook or the housekeeper to do any of this…plus, it wouldn’t be in the spirit of the holidays if I pawned it off on someone else).
The problem is I’m FRIENDLY with both my mail woman Jay and my FedEx delivery man Robert. Do I feel as though I’m cheating on Jay when I choose Robert to pick up my packages for delivery? Oh hell no! If I can save money by choosing FedEx over the “other” shipping methods (plus spend a few minutes chatting with an old friend when he comes to the door), I’m going to choose FedEx.
That’s right – I said that I can SAVE MONEY by shipping FedEx. It costs me about 10% LESS for FedEx Ground than it does UPS (and for anything larger than an envelope…USPS isn’t even a contender).
PLUS – for those of you who are sending things at the last minute (something I would NEVER do….LOL – wait, it’s CHANUKAH already & the packages are still sitting here), you can’t beat FedEx.
I recently learned that you can SAVE EVEN MORE by signing up for your very own FedEx account. No, you don’t have to be a HUGE corporation, I did it and I’ll be saving up to
- 16% off of FedEx Express services
- 8% off of FedEx Ground delivery
- of course you can save 10% by visiting one a FedEx Office Location
For easy packages, I do it myself and simply call for pick-up (no fighting crowds or standing in line). BUT – if I have something that’s large or awkward, I’ll bring it to my local FedEx Office….because they’ll HELP ME by packing and shipping my holiday packages for me. They also have lots of of tips on how to minimize the size and weight of a package to reduce shipping costs.
While you’re there, the FedEx Office also offers customized holiday cards, stationery and personalized 2010 calendars in just minutes either online or in-store. With FedEx Office Print Online services, you can print holiday newsletters and cards to a nearby center of your choice or have them delivered to your friends and family hassle-free. What a great way to keep in touch with all of your jet-setting friends around the globe.
Here’s the FUN part. If you sign up for a FedEx.com account of your OWN, you can be in the running to win one of five (5) Apple iPod Touches. Simply sign up on FedEx.com (yes, it’s FREE) then enter your name, e-mail address and FedEx confirmation number HERE.
It’s definitely time to take a little of the stress out of the holidays by letting FedEx do your shipping.
