While you wouldn’t think that Dumpster Diving would be part of the Champagne Living vocabulary, I have been known to haul something that’s sitting on the curb (let’s say something that the NEXT DOOR neighbors put out with the trash YESTERDAY) back to the Mansion. Perhaps we need to re-name this act to something more genteel. Let’s just say that I
It’s one of the benefits of having a dog that needs to go out VERY early in the morning. Earlier than the trash pickup.
This isn’t the first time that the Mansion has been the recipient of a recycled estate piece. When we lived in New England, my friends and I would set our alarms for VERY early and scour the wealthiest of neighborhoods on those days that were designated as furniture pick-up or large items days. The mansion has been adorned with such finds as a REAL oriental rug (needed a cleaning with my trusty carpet cleaner & it looked as good as new), a soft leather armchair, and more. While most needed cleaning, there were some (like the suede chair that I dragged into the house yesterday) that need ABSOLUTELY nothing.
It’s not easy the first time you do it. You’ll be looking over your shoulder to see if anyone’s watching (I still do that). Just remember, that these are items that are being put out for the trash and most people would much rather see their former possessions go to someone who can and will use them vs. them ending up in a pile of………
Try it sometime, you may be surprised at what you find.

Dumpster Diving is my middle name in my family that is. I love to get out early and scour a particular neighborhood. It is fun and rewarding and I have only been stopped a few times and have been lucky that I didn’t get slapped with a ticket.

Oh my….what is the fine for diving? I thought that was only for when you actually dive into corporate & retail dumpsters – you'd be tresspassing. Taking pieces off of the street on trash day is a different story.
Cathy – Yes, I like being able to justify my finds….LOL. It is a BEAUTIFUL chair. I'm hoping that they are re-decorating keep tossing things out…;)

It’s amazing what you can find, that other people just want out of their way. Of course, if one is driving down the street (instead of walking), they also have to keep their eyes on the road!
(“But officer, I was just curbside shopping for estate treasures”…)
