Buzz

Alright, alright, alright? We put Matthew McConaughey’s ride to the test.

mkx-1Mr. S had the use of a Lincoln MKX for a week. Mr. S took over at the wheel and wrote his first post ever about the experience.

Recently, I had the good fortune to have us of Lincoln’s entry into the SUV-crossover market the MKX, complete with the Black Label package. To spin the companies movie-star front man’s famous line – What a car, what a car, what a car. While the MKX has been on the roads for nine years now, the 2016 Black Label entry offers a blend of style, performance, comfort, and safety features that have been upgraded beyond what this reviewer has experienced in a Lincoln before.

Style

With its distinct nose and rear wing, you know when it is both coming AND as it passes you on the highway. It has a more European look than what we have come to expect in a domestic auto. The chroma quartz silver metallic 20″ wheels give the car a bit of a snarl.

The cabin mixes the rich Venetian leather trim seats with just the right of amount of aluminum for some flair. I personally would have liked to have wood grain accents, which come with some of the other color packages (we were in my wife Zippy’s favorite color combo – The Muse – a blend of grays).

The panoramic vista roof with power shade lets the outside in whether you’re in driver seat or a passenger.  We decided to give it a try during the meteor shower and took the MKX out to the beach the check out the beautiful show. We reclined the seats and the roof and enjoyed the constellations. Unfortunately, Zippy started to fall asleep (yes, those seats are comfortable) before the display even began.

The Power Plant

The 6 cylinder wedded to a turbo charged 6-speed transmission is FANTASTIC. Quick around town, the turns are rock solid and steady at more than highway posted speeds. Drive in “drive” or use the paddle shifters, either offer a fun experience on the road.

The 22-way power seat guarantees that you’ll be comfortable no matter what your height. Whomever invented a spa experience in my car is a genius. Who would have thought that you could get a massage as you drive? You can drive for hours upon hours and still get to your destination completely refreshed. The rich wollsdorf leather wrapped steering wheel offering crise control, and controls or your audio, media and temperature along with the Alcantara (suede) wrapped headliner take that Euro exterior into the cabin for the ultimate in luxury.

Safety

I was amazed at everything Lincoln has done to insure our families safety. It all starts with the 8 airbags that include one at your knees as well as a seat belt airbag. Parking sensors are offered in both the back AND the front for a 360 degree visual experience. Blindspot warnings, active park assist, rain sensing wipers, a lane keeping system and active braking all help to keep you safe and secure. You almost have to try to get into an accident with these controls at your fingertips.

Fun

It just wouldn’t be a Lincoln without their amazing Sync with MyLincoln touch. The media hub is loaded with Sirius Satalite radio, a voice activated navigation system and even an embedded modem. Open your garage without that old remote with the universal garage opener. It’s got keyless entry, tire pressure monitor, and a remote start. Heading up to the mountains? We take a ski trip every year, and the heated steerig wheel and heated seats that include the REAR seats will insure you won’t be shivering until you open the door and FEEL the snow.
