Can the start of your day determine how the rest of it will go? According to science, and anyone who has had a bad morning, yes, it can. So to give you the best chance at a good day, you need to make sure you start it off right. To help, follow the 8 steps below.
1. Take a Moment and Center
Before you even get out of bed, take a moment for yourself. Use this time to focus on breathing and center. If you enjoy meditation, and can do it without falling back asleep, go for it. If not, use this time to become aware of yourself, starting from your toes and ending with the top of your head.
2. Drink a Glass of Water
It is best that you have this next to your bed so it can be the first thing you do when you sit up. This rush of hydration wakes you up from the inside and helps to flush the body. Plus, it gives you a head start on your eight glasses a day.
3. Bathroom Routine
Take this time to handle the basics, from showering to brushing your teeth. While you can’t take forever, try to find something small you can do to pamper yourself, such as applying lotion.
4. Review the Schedule
With your body cared for, now it is time to review your schedule for the day. This should not take long and you don’t want to obsess over it, as this induces stress. Simply review so you can be focused.
5. Stretch
Get your blood flowing. According to Protalus, the butterfly stretch is a great way to decrease tension and increase flexibility in your hips, so you might want to start incorporating it into your daily routine. A simple stretching routine is good, but a yoga routine is even better, since it incorporates both stretching and exercise. Speaking of which…
6. Exercise
Even if it is only for seven minutes, exercise. Get moving, get your heart pumping. Of course, if you are going to sweat too much, save your shower for after your exercise session.
7. Set Your Goals
You already reviewed your schedule. Now is the time to set your goals for the day. Try to come up with goals that help drive you towards larger goals while also tackling your to do list.
8. Give Thanks
Finally, before you run off to tackle the day, think about what you are thankful for in life. This will but everything into perspective before you get going.
