Move over, ketchup and mustard, there are some new faces in town. Swap out your boring and bland dishes with some new creations and ingredients. While traditional condiments can add just the right amount of taste to many dishes, you need to try out these three condiments that are sure to up the ante.
Bacon Jam
Yes, you heard us right. With a sweet combination of sugar, bacon, and a few other ingredients Bacon Jam can be used on practically anything. You can use it as a simple spread on crackers or create an appetizer of cream cheese with bacon jam on top for dipping. Additional starters such as jalapeno poppers and soups can benefit from its use.
When it comes to main courses such as salmon, burgers, or chicken, they can all be topped with a bacon jam glaze for just the right amount of sweetness. Don’t forget dessert! You can also make smores with an added spread of bacon jam for the perfect combination.
Vegemite
Best known for its popularity in Australia, there’s a reason why Aussies have a bite of vegemite almost daily. This thick, black spread is typically used on toast and pastries down under. The taste can be described as a savory, bitter, salty, and malty that is created from brewer’s yeast extract, numerous vegetables, and different spices. Adding this ingredient to savory and sweet dishes such as baked potatoes, roast pork, and chicken can create a tremendous tasting dish.
Truffle Oil
Created through an infusion process of white or black truffles that make a rare and unique flavor. These underground mushrooms have a taste that is commonly related to wood, garlic, or fruit-type flavor. The intense flavor of truffles can elevate a dish with a simple drizzle.
If you want to keep it simple, you can drizzle some truffle over on top of freshly popped popcorn or french fries with an added dash of parmesan cheese. You can also elevate soups, risotto, and pasta dishes with a tablespoon or two.
Spice Up Your Pantry
If you don’t try all of these condiments, you have to at least try one. Our personal favorite is bacon jam because who doesn’t love a salty and sweet combination? Whichever you choose to try out, we can assure you won’t be disappointed with the outcome. Ditch the ketchup and add some creativity to your dishes with condiments that are adorned but haven’t quite hit their claim to fame yet.
