We all need to have a girls’ weekend, but we don’t all have the budget. Except, what if we do? What if you could have an amazing weekend with your best friend for just $200?
You might not think it is possible, but allow us to prove you wrong. Below are things you can do on your girls’ weekend that will allow you to come in at $200 or less.
Find a local event or venue that is 100% free. Depending on where you live, there may be museums, botanical gardens, art fairs, and more. The bigger the event or venue, the better.
Prepare a meal or picnic together, staying together every step of the way, from shopping to cooking to dining. Bonus points if you purchase items at an outdoor market, which serves as an outing all on its own. Worried about spending too much? Make it a challenge to see who can spend the least!
Take a hike. Or bike. Or walk. Or climb. Whatever best suits you and the area where you live.
Do a wine tasting. Most wineries offer cheap or free wine tastings—just don’t go overboard buying the bottles you like most.
Take a class. There are plenty of crafting and cooking classes that you can take for under $30 each. And you might even be able to find some that are free.
Get your makeup and nails done at your local cosmetology school. These schools offer steep discounts on services to help ensure that their students get the real world experience they need. And even if your makeup ends up making you look like a clown, you will at least get a good laugh out of it.
Go to yard sales or thrift shops together. It is all the fun of shopping, but without the hefty price tag.
Find an event at your local library or bookstore. Independent bookstores often have fun events, including book tours from famous and indie authors. And most of these are free, or very cheap.
Sign up for a volunteer opportunity together. This costs you nothing, and you can learn a lot about yourselves while you do it.
Go roller skating or ice skating. This is a fun activity that will take you back to your childhood, and if you go earlier in the day, you might even have the rink to yourselves.
Sign up for a free or reduced rate introductory dance lesson. Maybe you will decide to stick with it, but if not, you are sure to have a good laugh trying.
Go fruit picking. If there is anything in season in your area, this can be a great way to get out of the house for several hours without spending tons of money.
Take a drive—and pick the car that has the best gas mileage. This can be a geat way to get to know the area better and discover something new.
Attend a dress rehearsal for a local theater troupe. These performances are sometimes free, but even if not, the rate will be significantly discounted.
Get on Yelp and find cheap eats in your area with high ratings. Make it a challenge to dine for under $10 each, including drinks.
Go to open houses in your dream neighborhood. Sure, you won’t be buying, but isn’t it fun to pretend?

Excellent suggestions, Zippy! Years ago I garage sale’d with a good friend and it was the best fun! She was super knowledgeable about antiques and collectibles and was a superb bargainer — she taught me a lot. It was fun to have breakfast and coffee at 4 30 a.m. (hey, we took our garage sale-ing serious 🙂 ) at an all night diner and then off we went!
