Every cruiser has that ship. Not necessarily the newest ship. Or the biggest. Or even the one with the fanciest restaurants. It’s the ship that made you fall back in love with cruising.
For my husband and me, that ship is Celebrity Reflection.
This August 1-7, we’ll be boarding Reflection once again, this time to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Yes, this is the ship that we chose to celebrate some of the important times. On the surface, it may seem like it’s just another cruise. But for us, it’s something much more meaningful.
It’s our chance to say goodbye.
Because when we step off the ship at the end of our voyage, it’ll be the last time we’ll ever see Celebrity Reflection exactly as we’ve known and loved her.
Where Our Celebrity Story Began
We’ve sailed on many Celebrity Cruises ships over the years. After this cruise, we will be Elite Captain’s Club members, and we’ve watched the fleet evolve from the classic Solstice Series to the revolutionary Edge Series. We’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and countless sea days while making friends with fellow cruisers and crew members along the way.
But every journey has a beginning. Ours started aboard Celebrity Reflection.
There’s something comforting about coming back to a familiar ship. You know exactly where you’ll head after boarding. You know your favorite place to watch sail away. You know which bar makes your favorite cocktail and where to sit with a cup of coffee as the ocean slowly wakes up each morning.
Reflection has never just been another cruise ship to us. She’s the ship that introduced us to everything we now love about Celebrity Cruises. Which is exactly why today’s announcement feels both exciting and a little bittersweet.
Celebrity Reflection Is About to Become Something Entirely New
Celebrity Cruises has officially unveiled plans for one of the most ambitious ship transformations in its history.
Beginning in March 2027, Celebrity Reflection will return after a complete modernization featuring 13 new experiences, bringing many of the most popular venues from Celebrity’s newer ships to one of its most beloved classics. This isn’t simply new carpeting or updated staterooms. The ship is being fundamentally reimagined.
Perhaps the biggest change is the addition of the spectacular Grand Plaza, a soaring three-story gathering place inspired by Celebrity’s Edge Series ships. Replacing Reflection’s familiar central atrium, the new space will feature a dramatic suspended chandelier, live entertainment throughout the day and evening, and a centrally located Martini Bar that promises to become the social heart of the ship.
It’s a bold move, and one that signals just how committed Celebrity is to blending the elegance longtime guests love with the energy found aboard its newest vessels. It’s one that I’ve loved on the Celebrity Xcel, so I can’t wait to see it on the Reflection.
The Pool Deck Is Getting an Entirely New Personality
If there’s one area that’s changing the most, it’s the outdoor experience. The redesigned Celebrity Pool Club will become much more than just a place to swim between ports. Expanded seating, luxurious daybeds, additional shaded areas, two dedicated bars, and daily entertainment will transform the pool deck into an all-day destination.
Two brand-new dining venues will debut here as well, including Orange Peel Bar & Grille, which will serve smashburgers, grilled favorites, and frozen cocktails designed for lazy afternoons in the Caribbean sunshine. Just steps away, Tacos del Sol introduces a build-your-own taco concept featuring fresh toppings and bold Mexican-inspired flavors.
For cruisers who, like me, often find themselves spending entire sea days outdoors, these additions could become some of Reflection’s biggest highlights.
Favorite Venues From Across the Fleet Are Coming Together
One of the things I find most interesting about this renovation is that Celebrity isn’t simply inventing new spaces. They’re bringing together many of the most successful concepts from across the fleet. Having recently sailed aboard the beautifully revitalized Celebrity Solstice, I’ve already experienced several of the venues now making their way to Reflection.
The lively Boulevard Lounge, home to dueling pianos, karaoke, interactive games, and live performances throughout the day, quickly became one of my favorite gathering places aboard Solstice. Its intimate setting creates an energy that’s completely different from the ship’s main theater.
Next door, the Boulevard Bar provides the perfect place to grab a handcrafted cocktail before or after a show. Then there’s The Parlor, another standout addition from Solstice. Part sports lounge, part game room, and part upscale gathering space, it offers everything from billiards and darts to oversized board games, comfort food, award-winning whiskies, and some seriously over-the-top milkshakes.
These aren’t simply new venues. They’re places designed to encourage guests to linger, laugh, compete, and connect.
Dining Is Receiving a Major Upgrade
Celebrity has always been known for its culinary program, and Reflection’s transformation continues that tradition. Guests will soon enjoy Trattoria Rossa, the intimate Italian restaurant that debuted aboard Celebrity Solstice. Handmade pastas, Roman-inspired cuisine, tableside preparations, and thoughtfully paired Italian cocktails promise a dining experience that’s both elegant and approachable. It just happens to be my favorite restaurant across any line. It’s hands down one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to.
The acclaimed Fine Cut Steakhouse, already a favorite aboard the Edge Series, also joins Reflection’s lineup, bringing premium dry-aged steaks, fresh seafood, and elevated service.
Perhaps the venue I’m most excited to see return is Bora. I had the opportunity to experience Bora aboard Celebrity Xcel shortly after it debuted, and it quickly became one of the most memorable spaces on the ship. During the day, it offers an energetic rooftop brunch with customizable cocktails and sweeping ocean views. As evening arrives, the atmosphere shifts completely, becoming an elegant Mediterranean-inspired dining venue with chef-led tableside preparations and beautifully designed shareable plates.
Seeing Bora make its way to Reflection feels like one of the smartest decisions Celebrity could have made.
Even the Top Deck Is Being Reinvented
One of the most surprising additions is Sunset Park, a completely reimagined rooftop retreat. Replacing what many longtime Reflection guests remember as open lawn space, Sunset Park creates an outdoor environment that feels more like a sophisticated seaside resort than a traditional cruise ship deck.
Guests will find lawn games, meditation sessions, outdoor movies, live music, shaded private cabanas with dedicated attendants, casual dining at Sunset Park Café, and handcrafted cocktails from the adjacent Sunset Bar. It’s easy to imagine spending an entire afternoon here without ever feeling the need to head back inside.
The Retreat Guests Haven’t Been Forgotten
Guests staying in The Retreat will also notice meaningful improvements. The exclusive sundeck receives an oversized hot tub and refreshed design, while The Retreat Lounge has been completely redesigned to enhance the premium suite experience.
Meanwhile, familiar favorites including Café al Bacio (AKA my workspace and spot for my Tea Forte each day), Cellar Masters, World Class Bar, the casino, fitness center, Camp at Sea, Passport Bar, the Art Gallery, Luminae, and Blu are all receiving updates as part of the ship-wide modernization.
Why This Sailing Feels Different
Normally, when I board a cruise ship, I’m thinking about where we’re going. This time, I’ll probably spend just as much time appreciating where we are.
- I’ll linger a little longer over my morning coffee.
- I’ll spend extra time watching sail away.
- I’ll probably take far more photographs than usual.
- I’ll pay closer attention to the familiar spaces that have become part of our cruising story over the years because I know many of them are about to evolve into something entirely new.
There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about knowing you’re experiencing the final chapter of a place that has meant so much to you.
Looking Ahead While Looking Back
One of the things I’ve always admired about Celebrity Cruises is that it refuses to stand still.
Rather than allowing beloved ships to age quietly, the line continues investing in them, borrowing the very best ideas from its newest vessels while preserving the service and sophistication loyal guests have come to expect. Reflection’s transformation represents exactly that philosophy.
Will I miss the ship exactly as she is today?
Absolutely.
But after experiencing many of these new concepts aboard Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Xcel, I’m also incredibly excited to see them come together aboard the ship where our Celebrity story first began.
So, this August, as we celebrate my husband’s birthday,and and raise a glass aboard the Reflection we’ve loved for years, we’ll make one more set of memories before she begins her remarkable transformation.
Then, in March 2027, I’ll be first in line to discover the next chapter of one of Celebrity’s most iconic ships.
Some goodbyes are difficult. This one simply makes me excited for what’s waiting on the horizon.
